Episode 41 - Return of the King

General Summary

The Guardians of Golarion, along with the drow magus Serdrissa, Arcaan, and the aspis agent Tatho, prepared an ambush on the Road of Bones for the returning King Formosh.   Early the next morning, just before sunrise, a signal came up from Kwava. He, along with Fjord and Hugo, was guarding the horses at the base of the stairs. They had pulled back from the stairs the night before, on the off-chance that the King and his entourage approached the hill giant encampment from the plains. Kwava saw the giants approach, and as they passed by he fired the light arrow into the air hoping the Guardians would see it.   Three hill giants, King Formoch the cyclopean cleric of Minderhal, and his human love Atga fell into the ambush. During the combat, Godric killed the King. However, to fulfill her contract, Serdrissa had to be the one to strike the killing blow. Among the scrolls found in the harpy den was a scroll of raise dead. Telith cast it while the Guardians, through bluffs and intimidation, prompted the King to return to life. He opened his eye, and Serdrissa used Shadow Grasp to close it once again. The eye was removed, and the contract was complete. Now all that was needed was to return the eye before day's end.   Serdrissa and Arcaan took horses, thanked the Guardians for their help, and rode off to Riddleport. The Guardians looted the bodies, grabbed Tatho, and followed Serdrissa to Riddleport.   On the road to Riddleport, the party rode at a full sprint to reach the city in time. Suddenly there was a boom of thunder and the head of Serdrissa's horse disappeared in a red mist. She was thrown from the horse and fell to the ground. Agonos, the Twilight Empire’s arcane gunslinger assassin stepped out from a clump of trees. “I kept my word,” he told Serdrissa. “I didn’t lift a finger against you. Your horse, however, is another story.”
