Hauflin's adventure with magical girls

General Summary

Stepping through the portal Hauflin finds himself in a colourful land. The sun is shining. The wind creates patterns on the grass as it blows by. The trees have luxurious, pastel coloured fur instead of leaves. Hauflin first thinks he must have died and gone to hell, but then remembers the Horror and realises it has caught him and is tormenting him, as the Horror had insinuated mere moments before. He laments the unfairness that he's the only one this is happening to, as he doesn't see his companions around.   There is motion in the distance, and Hauflin reaches out instinctively. That is when he sees his hand. It is yellow, a bright, lemon yellow. He shrieks, and frantically looks around himself. His hair is sky blue, his wings iridescent; the worst possible discovery as they refract light into a mirriad of colours. He perfectly reflects the colourful nature of this land. He yowls in denial and tears through his backpack pulling out his black blanket and tent tarp. He wraps these around himself and begins rocking for comfort and in the vain hope he can restore himself to his previous dour shades.   A female voice calls to him by name. He peaks out of his blanket. He doesn't recognise the three young windlings hovering in front of him, but they insist they know him. One lectures him, saying he shouldn't go off on his own all the time as they have a hard time finding him. They're group is supposed to go meet with a unicorn. Luckily, his father told them where to find Hauflin. Hauflin is confused, and up to this point has been argumentative. However, at the mention of his father, who died decades ago, he goes silent. He packs up his gear quickly and follows them.   The three windlings are Primose, Aurora and Seyua, all girls, all brightly coloured. Primrose the paladin is wildly optimistic, and quests to bring joy back to those without hope. Aurora is a bard who believes whole heartedly in the power of love, art and music. Seyua, a thoughtful and considerate individual full of compassion and empathy, uses her gifts in the arcane to give those weaker than herself a voice. They are as different from Hauflin as one could get.   The four arrive at a clearing and meet the unicorn Myvenway. As she explains that someone has recently started hunting unicorns, a second unicorn bursts into the clearing. It is her husband, Hilzarun, who is followed by a group of buckawns riding miniature worgs. The windlings and unicorns quickly deal with the buckawns. Hauflin slows them down by casting 'entangle'. Seyua dazzles them with 'jellybean hallucination' and summons 'warnicorn stampede' to trample them. While Primrose, encouraged by Aurora's music, uses her rose sword to strike them down in pairs with her great cleave feat. Oddly, there is no gore, the buckawns simply vanish in a puff of glitter. Hauflin, uses his animal handling to convince the riderless worgs to flee; no one should be fated to turn into glitter.   One buckawn surrenders and is questioned. Hauflin throws small stones at him, but stops after being reprimanded by Seyua. The girls promise to release him if he answers truthfully and resolves to change his naughty ways. The buckawn informs the group that Harakund, the fey queen's master of the hunt, wishes to marry the queen, and seeks a unicorn horn as a gift to earn her favour. Harakund has taken Myvenway's daughter for this purpose. Horrified the windlings, go to find the unicorn foal and stop Harakund.   They follow the trail the buckawns used which leads through a woodland to a portal. A quick check reveals that Harakund has gone through it, but as they approach they notice a Fey girl near it. She is Raewyn the daughter of Harakund, and she refuses to let them pass. Primrose notices Raewyn attempting to cast a spell, and tackles her with a great hug. Aurora tries charming her, but this and any other spell fails, along with bribes of shiny trinkets and magical items by Hauflin. Frustrated, Hauflin summons a constrictor snake to bind Raewyn and dives through the portal, followed shortly by the others.   Raewyn, losing the snake, follows the group through the portal. Luckily, the noise of the group attracts the attention of a faun who happens to be a relative of Raewyn. He scolds her for not getting along with others and leads her off home.   The windlings continue through the woods, reaching the Fields of Summer. As they fly over the fields a large, butterfly-winged bear hurtles towards them. He confronts them, demanding an explanation for their trespassing, and grumbling about worgs recently trampling his land. Seyua explains their mission while Aurora soothes him with charm, complimenting his beautiful fur. Not to be outdone, Hauflin transforms into a bear, but quickly regrets it as Aurora begins to stroke his coat. Flattered and pacified, Maelarith the bear invites everyone back to his place for a drink. The drink turns out to be magical, and vigour is restored to all the windlings.   Leaving Maelarith's fields, the group reaches the Forest of Autumn. Traveling through the forest the group easily avoids poinsonous plants and Twigjacks. As the forest growth becomes denser, Hauflin shows off using his wings and woodland stride to swiftly glide along branches. At one point the group notices that Primrose is no longer with them. They go back and find her entangled in a tree canopy. Hauflin extracts her and lets her ride piggy back as he continues gliding. He is perplexed by the bashful smile she gives him.   The forest opens onto a frozen waterfall and riverbed. Harakund appears, and refuses to give back the unicorn foal when asked. Furious Hauflin hits him with a fireball, quickly followed by a 'turbo nuclear butterfly blast' from Seyua. Hauflin notices that somehow the storm of butterflies does as much damage to Harakun as his fireball. Hauflin and Aurora give Primrose cold protection and increased combat skills, just in time for Harakun's response attack. Primrose rushes Harakun, while Seyua hits him with 'crystal heart attack'. As Primrose attacks Harakund, Hauflin calls down lightning from the storm clouds striking Harakund with multiple bolts.   Gathering around the defeated Harakund, Hauflin stabalizes him, but it appears to be too late. Harakund laments that he will not be able to see his Queen again. Aurora points out he likely has a frozen heart, and Haufllin quips maybe a group hug would help. He is rather off-put, and a bit nauseous, when the girls take him up on his joke. As they hug Harakund, his body melts away and a bright form appears, smiles and vanishes.   The windlings finds the foal in a nearby cave and unchain her. After they reunite her with her family, Hauflin remarks to Primrose that this group is a lot nicer than the one he's used to. Primrose laughs and asks what he's talking about, they are a team mates. As he contemplates that maybe being part of this team wouldn't be so bad, the world fades to a white light.
