Session 3: What happened to the woods? Report
General Summary
After witnessing the burial of cousin Bungwater in the Merrywine pumpkin patch, Lyon and Willy set out to find the source of the corruption in the woods. After a long walk and seemingly no progress the duo sat down to rest. It was during the night however that things began to become a little eerie. While during the first watch Lyon was largely unscathed, the second watch with Willy proved to be a little bit more terrifying. First, a slightly humanoid creature crawled around their campfire, and it was only through Willy's quick thinking that he managed to draw its attention away. The rest of the night seemed to go without incident... mostly. Upon awakening, Lyon found that the woods had crept closer, as if they had a life of their own. He then noticed that the gnarled roots and brambles formed the shape of several faces which glared scornfully at the pair. He decided that Willy, who already looked tired, did not need to learn of this. After this, they proceeded down the beaten path until they found a crossroads which led in three different directions. The path ahead led down, the path to the left followed along the forest and the path to the right led up. First, they took the path in the middle and arrived at a clearing with a burned down hut. Despite the destruction however, the garden was neatly trimmed, bereft of the brambles which seem to have overrun pretty much everywhere else. Within the place they found a doll pried from the skeletal bones of a dead child. And a table which upon being broken contained papers and the rambling of the last days of the family. Tragic as they were, it was an all too familiar story. One of neglect, isolation and ultimately death. After searching further however, they were nowhere closer towards the source of the corruption. After seeking an elevation, they looked over the canopy and saw a column of smoke. And so, further down the path they found a home, deep within the woods, under a hill. Willy leans forth and through either bravery or hubris drew the home's occupant out. Avoiding him around the house, Willy then snuck inside while the man was distracted. Lyon saw it however, the man's clear intentions as he came out, holding a knife behind his back and in a strange and uncharacteristic display of bravery followed him inside...
