Session 12: Core of Corruption. Report
General Summary
Willy and Lyon rushed back to the clearing where the house had been burned down. They had passed it a few times, but they had not thought that given the lack of brambles and thorns, the core of corruption could be found here. Upon investigating the area past the house, they found a grave with a few engravings of wood dangling upon it. These depicted a couple with their children until their inevitable demise. The last few wooden plaques simply had a few scribbles which swore vengeance. With no further details to go off of, the two got to work, digging into the grave. It was hard and laborious work and without any tools they were not able to do as much progress as they had hoped. Night began to fall and with it, a circle of vines and thorns began to encircle the place and in the shadows of the canopy there were figures which began to stir and walk towards then. With little to no choice, they had to dig faster and faster. When Lyon peeked out of the hole they'd dug for themselves, he noticed several shambling figures no bigger than children coming towards them. In the distance, a bigger form shambled forward in the vague resemblance of a woman. It was a thing of vines and grime, of root and thorn. Together they struggled, with Lyon and Willy fighting with will, fire and crossbow bolt to get to the heart of corruption which lay deep in the grave. Upon reaching it, they attempted to pull the heart to set it ablaze, to no avail. Then, empowered by his amulet passed down by his family, Lyon rose to expose the roots of the heart of corruption an pulled at it and set it ablaze, forcing the many different creatures to wail and shriek and wither, blackened with despair and intangible flames alike. Just as they were about to be overwhelmed... the creatures dropped to the floor and moved no more. When morning came it was just Willy, Lyon and the remains of the cursed blight upon the forest. They took a deep breath and packed whatever they had left of their belongings and departed, making their way towards the Merrywine Burrow, upon which they finally found themselves a safe place to rest. All that remained was completing the mission and providing them with the proof of the deed...
