Session 13: The city down below. Report

General Summary

After taking a moment to rest and speaking with the prisoners, Wrynna and Edward decided that the best course of action would be waiting for the traitor who led the miners down below. They lit up the fire, set up a trap and prepared to wait. It wasn't until a few hours later that the man called Matthew Morgan showed up and slipped on the stairwell and rolled down. The duo attacked them and immediately lead them down a chase.   This led the pair down a chase through the city, coming into brief contact with its denizens before the chase led them down a great building across the flooded plaza which they originally came through. After following into the building and triggering a trap which blocked their exit, they had no choice but to follow further. Thankfully, due to Wrynna's thinking and the creation of a light source to follow, they managed to follow Matthew down into the depths below the city still. All the way down, past the room which Matthew had used to stay in and beyond it, towards a passage across a vast underground lake. There they caught up to him and after a brief duel, Edward was brought low and Matthew made his escape.   Thanks to Wrynna's quick intervention however, his life was spared and soon she dragged him back towards the room which they passed upon. There she laid him to rest and inspected the room. She found a potion in a triangular bottle, a bottle made of stone and lastly a square bottle which she explored with Edward when he woke up. After a long rest and some energy was recovered, Edward also recovered some of Matthew's notes on what he was seeking and why, uncovering that Matthew had known about the city for much, much longer and that he followed a voice which promised him riches, should he retrieve the gem.   The potions recovered were a potion of invisibility, a potion of the Fiend's Thirst and a potion of Dragon's Breath.   Armed with these new boosters, they made their way down the path to confront him once more. Especially after having recovered some much needed energy. Once they traversed the long path, they were met with a stone peak which had a stairway carved into it as well as a ring which surrounded the stone column. All around them was the flapping of wings from above. They followed the path and as they were arriving to an alcove dug into the wall, they were surprised by a corpse which fell from above. One of the missing miners no doubt.   Lastly, upon reaching the alcove they met Matthew, who had not had the chance to recover. Edward took quick control of the situation and convinced Matthew that he was on his side and had come to help him retrieve the gem and the others, against Sterling's wishes. Exploiting the grudge Matthew had for the older miner, they managed to convince him to cooperate in getting to the altar above so that they may finally grab the gem...
