Session 11: Arrival at the Digs. Report

General Summary

Together, Gertrude and Esteban waited out the pack of hunters with Meria. They waited until the morning, taking turns to making sure that they weren't found. Esteban even went as far as to make sure that the entrance to their hiding spot was disguised through a clever use of prestidigitation.   When morning broke, the hunters were gone and moved on with their hunting trip. Regrettably, Meria, Esteban and Gertrude found that the man which they had sought to rescue had passed away in the night from the wounds and exposure alike. Upon resurfacing in the town, they took the time to investigate it. They found several structures out of stone, withered by time and the elements alike. Much of it was overtaken by nature. But that the foundations of the buildings still remained where even the names had been lost to time indicated that this place once had been quite a solid foundation.   Eventually they found a good patch of each which they used to make a grave for their fallen escort. Together they worked to ensure that no one was jumped and that a burial was conducted respectfully. After this, they had some more food before proceeding along the way. Esteban made note of the place, should one day, in a better future they desire to try and rebuild it.   The mood for the remainder of the journey was somber, with them staying off the road to ensure that they were not set upon by the ambushers which had departed only hours prior. They saw them at a distance, but thankfully managed to avoid them, by going around the path and ensuring that they do not run into one another. Eventually, after understanding that the enemy group was behind them, they returned to the road and proceeded to make their way towards the Digs.   Along the way, Meria opened up a little bit more about the situation at the Digs. She told them a little bit about the two families controlling the Digs, and how the halflings were the only thing standing between them and the establishment of a much more authoritarian rule over the Digs. But that once there, she would tell them more.   Arriving at the Digs, they were greeted by guards who seemed surprised to see Meria and others. With an Orc no less. They allowed them in, despite giving the side-eye to Gertrude the whole way. Then they saw how the Digs were organized. On the surface, there were a few buildings as well as a makeshift town hall or gathering place. On this level, the Stillcrests and the Blackwood family could be found. On the layer below, the bulk of the inhabitants lived, closer to the work conditions and the open iron veins. Here the Bucklebees had their burrow as well.   On the lower ring were the assigned miners, who lived just next to the veins, so that time is not wasted between their work and their bedding.    Arriving at the Bucklebee burrow, they were welcomed inside and shown to a mess hall where the Bucklebee halflings dwelled.
