Session 5: Deep in the Mines
General Summary
The group for the most parts were hanging out on the ledge, each doing their things. Maverick was out, having reached that core critical age of 15, in attempts to woo a girl you all don't know much of. Ehverit was out at Damaia's and Twig out with Ranger John. Nina loaned her book of introductory arcane foundations to Astara, Trajan practiced his assault on the poorly already beaten dummy, Eavan gets lost in humming and observation of nature and Youka plays the lute, singing a narration of all of it. They then get a visit, from a gnomish man looking kind of lost. The man looks about stating he thinks he is in the wrong place. A quick conversation discovers he was coming to town to seek help recovering his goods. He is taken with a mix of unbriddled trust and offers to help, doubt and suspicion from the group. After determining that he couldn't comfortably settle their age, he agreed to 6sp a person (which is a very high pay, negotiated up from 5SP). On the way, he explained that his wagon and him were delivering goods to the ironshed mines, but he tried to avoid a road blocked by livestock and took an unfortunate shortcut over part of the foreclosed mine. The place being unstable, the wagon went down and crashed into the mine below, in a slow process that permitted him to save his donkeys, in the very least. He explains that the left side of the mines were closed over a decade ago, do to instability and multiple cave ins resulting in many deaths. The group started feared ghosts and undead... and negotiated a rate of 1gp per person if they could confirm undead. Ricko Padfoot, the gnomish merchant, agreed, as long as tangible proof is provided. When they reached the fissure, they had a rope set to scale down. The pile of rocks below made the initial descent less than 10ft. Trajan offered to stay behind and keep company to Ricko to protect him from potential threats. Eavan went down first, and Youka jumped to a painful landing (4hp lost!). Nina and Astara followed. There, they found a mine in shambles with many ways out of this large complex... and a broken wagon and goods. They attached the crates, sacks and barrels while Astara explored and discovered a weird room with a ritual circle, and weird books she collected... but not before failing a wisdom save. Possessed by a ghost, she returned to her group to divulge a single message "Return our bodies home. (Or "Bring our bodies back", wording is a bit blurry). Eavan had spotted down the lower path, a body, skeletal in sight. Astara regained control of herself.. not through mental fight, but was just, left by the ghostly presence. She ran back to the room. Youka followed but the lack of darkvision made it difficult. GAME BREAK - Tiny tot on camera Eavan and Nina went to the body and placed it in a crate. As they touched it, a voice in their mind whispered the name "Peter". They then hoysted the crate up. Ricko was working on securing the goods to his donkeys, and Trajan joined the group to check up on them. Astara and Youka, now with lantern, explored deeper and found a second body. This one whispered "Daniel". They also had chests, crates and barrels a plenty. They got goods from the chest, placed the skeleton in a sack, then moved on. Trajan, Nina and Eavan prepared to leave, but Ricko told them he'd have to make 2 trips, and would need to go now. Not wanted to be scammed, Eavan insisted he couldn't but partially failed. The gnome did toss down 15SP (3SP each, or half) before leaving, half of his goods staying behind. The group then moved up through a Northern path, and landed in a crystal cave, mining blue and red crystal. Nina tried her hand at mining, but realized the task was hefty, and that every piece could take an hour or so to mine out. More barrels here allowed them to loot more. They discussed a name, such as the caverneers, should they go there, and talked about plans and ideas, searching for another body. Until a shriek was heard. Below, Youka and Astara walked on a mushroom patch that began to scream. Poking them, they only got much louder. Moments later, a swarm of angered bats arrived, aggression through the roof. Combat ensued. Many were hurt and attacked, Nina fell and so did Youka, but Eavan could heal them with the healer's kit. After a time, they realized the mushrooms would stop shriekin when pulled out, and the bats calmed. Trajan remembered his breath weapon and roasted the rest. They all survived, but had much of a close call. Injured, they gathered back up, with Eavan using the last of the healer's kit to make others feel a bit better, resting some. END GAME
