Session 29: Abandoned cities and museum events Report

General Summary

After a recap, the group cleared the rest of Redragon and straggling items to check. The city was left mostly unlooted and the alchemist was questionned, via the last of Astara's sulfur and Speak with the dead. Little was revealed, other than the mangled corpse in the d'Orleans family is the head of the family, who was not known for having many enemies. Some medical inspection of the corpses in the d'Orleans house led to know that the wife likely found the corpse but none of them was the killer. There is one less corpse in the house than there are beds. Meaning one is either away, or the one bones in the barn. Eavaan did an autopsy of the mangled corpse on the way back. It gave little info other than the man died of a ripped out throat.   A very short stop in Arcanix revealed that they don't loan books, but anyone in the group can use downtime to focus study there to learn new languages, skills, spells or the likes.   Back in town, the bodies were delivered so that people could burry their loved ones and the group could collect the payment to bolster their funds (once it was confirmed that Eavaan could try to negotiate after the fact, for a bonus). Eavaan took an appointment with the Matron of the d'Orleans house, Lady Petunia, and everyone gained 30gp for the job, earning 50gp for the Foundation.   At the foundation, they found a revamped job board, allowing them to view jobs both in the HQ and those from Treegrove as well. 3 new Finder jobs were available: One to hunt a legendary type of mimic, one to investigate a case of folk losing their memories, and one about retrieving automatons in a city near the Mournlands.   In addition, they found a distraught, downright mad Antique, reading a recent missive. Twig trying to sympathize and assist the warforge, she explained her offense at receiving such request and pressed the paper to Twig, who read it aloud for the rest of the group to head.

The group debated what to do. Twig opted out for most of this, letting the nobility to those more keen, but showed concern for Nina and offered to help disguise her for the arrival of the Undying Court in 4 days. Nina seemed unsettled, as VIP from her homeland, who abandonned her, were now coming here. Astara also pieced this together and began speculations about the potential for these to be some of Nina's relatives. Eavaan accepted the letter and took helm of the arrangements for the arrival, and Astara offered to help. There were arrangements for Eavaan to weave an outfit for Twig for the graduation event in a couple of weeks. Some shopping was done.   GAME BREAK   After the break, we went to a round table of 4 days of downtime per person, until end of game. In order:

Twig

With the assistance of Trajan to unlock the door, Twig investigated Sophia's home in Fairhaven, and found it empty. The professional proved to have left no traces, but a single set of thieves tools, behind. Everything was cleaned to incredible degrees. The landlord spotted them, but Twig was able to spin a tale and get out of trouble. He then went to Arcanix, where Sophis has another registered home, and managed to break in as well. Both homes were of a lower grades, in places out of main guard attentions. This one was a tiny home on a farm lot, and had little belongings in it. A set of neatly folded spare clothing, a disguise kit, and a single note stating "Professor Longshanks prefers his steak rare.".   Twig hunted the professor down, one in advanced divination who confessed not having seen Twig coming. The professor was haughty and non-cooperative at first, until Twig showed him the note. Something rang a bell to the professor as he reacted, asking Twig if he was affiliated with the note person. Twig made a long winded explanation that they were friends but not affiliated, which confused the professor and told him that he didn't speak thieves cant and he could have just answered yes. Then he apologized and said there was nothing else he could do and since his last divination, "If House Phiarlan didn't success in their endeavor, then the Prince would come to seat.", he'd seen nothing.

Nina

Nina being nervous stuck to doing some research on her homeland and found little information. To do so, she visited the city registry's offices to find denizens that were from Aerenal and left. One such lives in her apartment building. The young male elf goes by the name Jora Lancaster. She visited him and asked him why he'd left Aerenal. Turns out, he left due to the strictness and even creepiness of the culture. He mentioned honoring the love and respect of the ancestors, but the overt worship of death didn't sit well with him. In addition, he didn't like the idea of the Skullborn and rise in religious crimes. He soon hushed himself, realizing this might be beyond points he should mention, and a low roll prevented convincing him to say more. With a now awkward neighbor, Nina headed to the libraries and studied 'Skullborn'. This is a faction of overzealous Undying Court members. The Undying Court worships death and sees SOME necromancy as a tool, but also views many of the more crude points of necromancy and undead to be vile and illegal, while the Skullborn disagrees. They are often outlaw, but operates much like a crime syndicate. Little more is documented.   The last of the time was spent creating a language. During off game time, Nina will need to select 5 lines or concept (i.e. 'danger ahead', 'don't trust this person', etc.) to have in that new crypto-language.

Astara

Astara went on her end and did some shopping and prepared for a difficult situation for the arrival of Ulendil. She retrieved attires and prepared for the museum event, pending on the most part for her part to aid Eavaan. She also looked at options for the purchase of land (but a selection has not yet been confirmed). Some time was also spent in language studies and preparations.

Eavaan

Eavaan went to the d'Orleans and through great persuasions rolls, convinced the lady for 100gp bonus to share, with a condition that the family wine be mentioned in the news article on the event. Twisting this, Eavaan got 10 bottles of wine and the options of a contract to get 5% on the sales of wine in large event (the family expects the flow to gradually start back in 2 months or so). She then secured a 3 days rental of the Penthouse near the castle, for 150gp (cost to the Foundation and not the group).   A bit of research was also done, on the hierarchy and nobility of Aerenal. Being a private continent, there was little to nothing available. Pylas Tylanaer is indeed a metropolis on the continent, where many dragonmarked houses operate. The Capital is Shae Cardail with the castle known as Shae Mordai (the City of the Dead), where the sibling kings (a brother and sister) rule. The current sovereigns have been in seat for near 400 years: Balaereth and Tezaera.

Astara / Eavaan

The duo arranged for the teleportation circle at House Orien to have an appointment for the arrival on the 27th, and have a carriage readied, with bloked out light. They went to the shopping streets to investigate dragonshards but found that a single shard of the common type is 500gp, while Khyber shards and Siberys shards are even more rare and costly. None of these are in town.   There is a visit to house Sivis (communications) for a message to Aerenal by Eavaan (will be done in IC Chat post game) and a sending by Astara to the Breland royals for some shards (will be done in IC Chat post game).   END GAME
