Session II: The Murderer's Trail Report

General Summary

The party followed the man named Sephek Kaltro, sticking in the shadows of the wintry night streets. Errewyn the Rogue led the group far ahead, making sure not to be seen. In a fishing warehouse, the death-shriek of a poor villager sprung our fledgling heroes into action.   Our group quickly moved in, too late however for the hapless victim. Karsa Tornskull charged forward with his greataxe, meeting Kaltro face-to-face. Dorian flung firebolts, Ice opened arrow-fire, and Basir smote him with the zeal of Gond. Kaltro summoned a sword of enchanted ice, and attacked with an unnatural speed. He swung at Karsa, then cast the Misty Step spell to appear near the distant wizard, Dorian. This rhythm of combat repeated, with Kaltro stepping once more to Arune who tried to halt his movement with Entangle, then Kaltro stepping again, felling the summer druid. At that near-mortal wound, the new friends rallied around their fallen companion and brought Kaltro down within another few seconds. As he fell, he swore that his work was not yet done, and that it would continue even with his death.   Errewyn calmed the terrified warehouse workers - at the same time, swindling them for some coin, and the rest of the group dealt with discrete disposal of the murderer's corpse. They slept in the Inn, spoke shortly with Keegan, and left to return to Buried Treasures to tell Hlin of the task's completion.   Then, they got on the road to head to Caer-Dineval. On the road, a blizzard hit. Luckily for two other travelers, they braced for it and camped near a cropping of rocks and trees for eight hours until the storm abated.   Frozen and tired, they made it to an uninviting Caer-Dineval, with no welcoming tavern to be found. One common house, after denying the party rooms, sent them to the castle for possible lodging.   Greeted by a trio of Tiefling stewards, the party was hounded with intense questions on their origin and purpose. Unimpressed by certain answers, only certain party members were allowed in, the others, sent to find their own shelter for the night.   Ice slept in an empty wolf kennel, which wasn't empty after a little while. Dorian and Karsa slept on the floor of the dirty common house. The others in the party, however, slept in the lap of luxury.   In the morning, they met a young servant girl named Mere, a cook named Karou Salafan, and a steward named Malmeros. The son of the Cora Mulphoon, Huarwar was also in the great hall. The party spoke with Malmeros, as he told them of their black necklace shards, he beseeched the three to head to Caer-Konig to stop the theft of Chardalyn. That being the black crystals of interest. It was told to them that Chardalyn was an ancient material, created from a blast of a legendary crystal lost in the tundra. If they stop this theft, and give the chardalyn to the Castle, they will be compensated in knowledge and comfort.
