Session 3: Pirates, Cultists, and Bears...Oh My!
General Summary
After returning to Aimir's humble domicile, he, Huru, and Belynor started sifting through the "plunder" looted from the Uncivil Serpent, still burning in the East Harbor. The great best and his pirate crew were thwarted, and the three men were eager to discover what they had taken. Huru set to work deciphering the many strange papers found in the ship's main cabin, all of which were written in the archaic language of those who deal with cut-throats, pick-pockets, and their like. To their annoyance, Belynor and Aimir found they had "looted" a bunch of ships repair materials. That will teach them not to check crates before lugging them up the slippery cobbled streets of Baldur's Gate. Huru was more successful, learning from the shipping manifests that Falco Zodge had hired the crew of the Uncivil Serpent to transport a Calishite mercenary company to the city. Apparently, the foreigners were tasked with creating chaos in several city neighborhoods. It was here that Loki, another occupant of Aimir's grubby flat, came home. Recognizing Belynor from their time as young men in their far-off village, Loki decided to help their cause. Loki, Huru, and Belynor headed out into the foggy darkness of the Lower City, aiming to find the Flaming Fist informant known as Tarina before her former pirate crew mates could. Aimir left on his own information gathering task, and was not seen again. In the dark, damp streets, the main group came upon trouble. A familiar Hellrider, Elias Garm, was fighting off a Flaming Fist patrol with his teenage companion Douglas. The Fist had cornered the knight in the street, and killed his horse, setting off the encounter. By the time things were resolved five brave adventurers stood alone in the fog, having defeated the Fist patrol, as well as a number of assassins who seemingly took advantage of the chaos to find sacrifices for their dark god Bhaal. The bodies were disposed of with the help of some friendly locals. At the Elfsong Tavern, the five men found drinks, a room for the night, Tarina the informant, and a slew of angry pirates taking their revenge on their dark-haired former crew member. Leaping to the rescue, and ignoring the Elfsong patron's good advice to stay out of it, Garm led the five adventurers into the mix. Swords were drawn, threats were thrown, insults flew, vines were wildly grown indoors, and copious amounts of blood was spilled. Pirates and Hellrider alike were taken to the brink of death, or beyond, before Lathander's golden light brought the toss up to a halt. Tarina had been saved from death, though the one-eyed pirate Dead Eye had escaped. The next day at the Elfsong, the group was finally able to find the information that Captain Zodge had wanted: Tarina told rumors that dark dealings had been going on at a local bath house, the Frolicking Nymph. Shadowy figures came and went at night, she said, carrying out their nefarious deeds under cover of darkness and fog.
