Session 1: Into Baldur's Gate
General Summary
We find our heroes, Huru, Belynor, and Aimir, and a fellow co-conspirator Cladamdass the tinker, thick in implementing their plot to kill a minor noble in Baldur's Gate. The target is the Minister of Public Welfare, Falco Zodge, a member of the city's patriar class of wealthy families and landlord of several slum areas of the Lower City. Falco targets immigrant occupants of the tenement housing he owns, providing high-interest loans to those in need, and taking his payments from their hides when they inevitably default. His tactics have caused unrest in many neighborhoods, but until the heroes stepped to the plate, none dared oppose the wealthy landlord. The plot involves Huru deftly planting "Dass's" bomb in Zodge's office in the Low Hall, the main governmental building in the Lower City's Bloomridge neighborhood. Cladamdass's magical device worked to perfection, and a mighty explosion shattered peace throughout Bloomridge. One person lost their life - but sadly for our heroes, it wasn't Falco. The deceased was Liliana, sister to Falco and wife of a local Flaming Fist officer, Captain Darmin Zodge. A few days later, the group met in a quiet tavern near the city's Basilisk Gate, where they could collect their thoughts, and watch as the Flaming Fist tried desperately to keep peace in the streets outside. Something beyond the bombing had obviously happened. Huru had seen the bright flash in the eastern sky the night he was planting the gnomish bomb in the Low Hall. Now, refugees by the hundreds were attempting to get into Baldur's Gate, and scared citizens were trying to get out to safety. The Flaming Fist had the city locked down tight, as rumors were circulating that Elturel, capitol city of the righteous kingdom of Elturgard to the east, had been destroyed. The Fist were determined not to allow these refugees to bring whatever tragedy happened in that city here to Baldur's Gate. It was while chaos was ensuing near Basilisk's Gate that the heroes were found by a squad of Flaming Fist, ordered by Captain Zodge to find his wife's murderers.
