Hunting the Arch Magus pt. 5 Report

General Summary

The Scions investigated the Temple of Iowen, and found an unsigned letter in the Arch Magus's handwriting pledging loyalty to the Serasian emperor.  They also questioned the guards stationed at the entrance of the reliquary, who didn't have much information but did say the Arch Magus had asked some very incriminating questions about the content of the vault and attempts to breach its defenses.   The Scions also discover that explosives were stolen from the Hippodrome, and agree to help Tordek and his dwarves guard the shipment coming in that evening.  After a few uneventful hours the carriage arrives, and almost immediately several smoke bombs go off and what appear to be goblins start tunneling underneath the carriage to steal boxes of explosives.   Billy Bob, thinking on his feet, slaps one of the donkeys on the ass, causing the cart to lurch forward, knocking himself and some of the goblins to the ground.  Mork puts one in a headlock and realizes they aren't goblins - they are actually gnomes in cheap goblin masks, and the one he's captured claims to be working for Bonesaw.   The party hears a scream and rushes to the arena; three owlbears, including one gigantic Alpha, have gotten loose and are attempting to break into the crowd.  Anton holds off the onslaught from the alpha, which gives Rayuuv enough time to cast a devastating spell that outright kills one of the owlbears and severely injuries the alpha and the owlbear which had made its way into the crowd.   The Scions stand ready to finish off the owlbears, and hopefully prevent any more innocent bystanders from being killed.
