Session 71: The Sylvennes Report
General Summary
To finish the fight, Mystan blinded the enemies with Blindness/Deafness at third level. Shan'tie then casted Polymorph on the caster, turning them into a snail, and then had Chester kick it off the waterfall. Assuming they died. Virion then cast Misty Step to then stab the enemy mage to death. Finaly, Menace uses Flametongue to non lethally knock out Carlos.
Menace loots Carlos's weapons and asks Virion to tie him up (DC 17). Shan'tie wants to wake him up, interrogate him, and kill him. Out of revenge. For Chester the Owl. Menace cautions, arguing for mercy and acting less out of revenge. Virion and Mystan back them up. Shan'tie turns to Mystan and asks what happens when someone attacks the people he loves. Mystan and Menace simultaneously say "There are fates worse than death."
Virion shakes Carlos awake. It does not work, so Mystan casts Healing Word with "Get up."
Carlos gets up but falls, and Menace picks him up, "Have you ever wondered what it's like to be the deer?"
"No, but it's an unpleasent feeling."
Shan'tie and Mystan share an aside about fates worse than death, and then Virion starts asking questions.
They learn Carlos and the gang (Isegutter, Relentenless, and Azaraha) were bounty hunters. Carlos is actually named Fransico Kindbleeder (clan name because they left the silver crown for Keoland).
He doesn't know about other bounty hunters, but knows Keoish military inforcements are coming up from the south. Sounds like magical elements; Order of Raan folks, mayber even heavier hitters.
They eventually determine that they could sell him to the Empire of the Silver Crown, possibly through Ciara(n). Shan'tie just wants to kill him, Virion doesn't care, and Mystan offers to cast Gaes in the morning.
They find a new clearing and Menace takes first watch, while Shan'tie talks to the critters and uses some incense from Mystan to resummon Chester the Owl.
On first watch, Menace spots an Owlbear 100 feet out. They watch it, but it wanders off. Virion spots three winter Eladrin, agents of Granny Nightshade, scouting the region. He talks with them, and they wish him happy hunting.
In the morning, Mystan casts Geas. He says "Take yourself to the Lizardfolk's home, in the Hool marshes west of Saltmarsh. Once there wait for Ciara(n) and the Sea Princes to arrive and then comply with them as they take him to the Empire of the Silver Crown." With a Bane, he fails easily. He then mosies on over. And Mystan casts Sending to the Lizardfolk so they know to capture him and not kill.
As the city of Seaton comes into view, Virion looks down upon it. He murmurs to himself, "There's so many people. What have we done? This can't be moral."
Shan'tie agrees, but this is the best option they have. They look out to the city; grey walls Virion never lived within. Castle Feldren casts a shadow over the town, and bread lines snake throughout the streets.
They meet at an old Sylvenne trading outpost, long abandoned save for basic upkeep. Virion chooses to meet outside.
Both groups have guards, and they talk. Virion begs them to either leave to Ahoyhoy or come with him, and eventually they relent after Virion reveals that both he and Black Axe are working against the empire, and he fears all out war. Then, he produces Black Axe's gift; inside the box is a soul catcher. Rodrigo's brother's soul catcher.
