Session 12: Reunions Report
General Summary
The veteran rounds the corner, battering Ceonwulf's shields and then trading blows with Jakuki and knocking him out. Roderick takes a hammer to the hinges of the prisoners' cell as Gwen tackles the lock of the door to what the group assumes to be the door to the secret escape. She defeats the lock as Ceonwulf leans over and bestows what remains of his healing power to Jakuki. He flutters awake, dragging himself upright and in one movement swings his maul round into the skull of the guard. Theia manages to wrench the door off the weakened prisoner cell and marshals them out into the escape tunnel and Ceonwulf barricades the door. There are around nine prisoners, including small children. They are led to Eastwatch, being further from the fray than Central. Ceonwulf and Gwen look after Bella Wainwright, who is looking for her mother Teela. Ceonwulf distracts her and several of the others with tales of heroism until she falls asleep, and Jodak returns with Roderick to a jubilant reunion with Millie and their three children in the mess. The group retire for the evening in soldier cots upstairs in the garrison. In the morning, it is revealed that Teela was found dead on a previous night, and Bella is now an orphan. Ceonwulf decides that without a further plan, perhaps the local temple of Pelor is the best place for her. Entreating the aid of the local head, Father Anhkerson, it is agreed that she can likely be placed with one of the staff or beneficiaries and Bella is left in their care. Theia mentions a desire to return to Rexxentrum, at least briefly. Stopping off at the Tin Lion, the party reunite with Kasia and Ivory with a view to seeing their intentions and wrapping up the deal with Ivory's father Thomas. Ivory writes a letter to her father for them to deliver, much to Thomas's ire. The trader declares that the deal is void if she isn't returned, and refuses to pay the 50gp agreed, surprising nobody. As an olive branch, the party offer to deliver a response letter to Ivory if he wishes, and as he pens this the butler Jeffrey hands Jakuki a small pouch with around 25gp as a personal thank-you for saving her. Roderick sources and delivers a bottle of Grandmother's Ruin to Reseigh in Eastwatch. A brief foray into the markets is undertaken for supplies is undertaken before venturing on to the capital.
