Session 5: Return to Odessloe Report
General Summary
With the owlbear fallen and the cave secured, Ivory and Kasia relax into a more peaceable state while the group cook, throw dice and settle in. Once night falls, the group take it in turns to keep watch. Roderick and Ongar sit in awkward silence, Theia and Jakuki discuss the minutiae of learning magic, then Gwen takes her turn and fletches herself some flights of arrows while Ceonwulf sleeps on, oblivious to the time.
09 Misuthar, 836PD
The night passes uneventfully, and the couple join the main group for a cold breakfast. Theia experiments and manages to cast a glowing light on her staff while Roderick magically warms his cold cuts. Discussions proceed apace on what the plans are, and it is soon agreed that the plan is to start by returning to Odessloe.
As preparations for travel are made, Roderick offers a coin, a modified sigil of the Righteous Brand to Ivory and Kasia. He tells them it can be used to seek refuge in Rexxentrum with Roderick's family and contacts. They hesitantly but gratefully accept the offer and decide this to be the best recourse.
Travel continues apace back towards Odessloe. Kasia airs her worries over the difficulties of balancing freedoms with duties to Gwen, who tells her of leaving her tribe after finding an inability to wield magic, and how sometimes it's inevitable that your actions will hurt people. Nearing the city, Kasia suggests they visit the mill of Jodak and family, a long term friend and potential stopover before continuing to Rexxentrum.
Arriving at the mill, all appeared quiet. Searching the buildings, the gang discover Jodak injured and slumped in a chair, bruised and marked by some conflict. After being pressed for what has occurred and where his family is by Theia and Kasia, he eventually revealed that the mill used to long ago be a base of operations for a smuggling ring of his making, and that a band of thugs had discovered this and forcibly taken the hideout for their own. His family had been kidnapped as collateral to prevent Jodak from reporting the location to any authorities.
After persuading Jodak to let them help, the band survey the abandoned hideout beneath the mill and plan their next move...
