Session 01: Humble Beginnings

General Summary

The party meets at the Yawning Portal, where they exchange introductions. Before long, a brawl breaks out between some Zhents and Xanathar's Guild members; with the guild members being ousted from the tavern following their leader being knocked out. Gwen tries to sit at a table with some agents from The Zhentarim, where she is mocked by Davil Starsong for not being initiated. Soon a Troll and a handful of Stirges emerge from the pit but are taken care of by the party, Durnan and others. Shortly after this, Volothamp Geddarm offers the party a quest to locate and retrive his missing friend Floon. See A Friend in Need.   With the quest accepted, the gang heads out towards The Skewered Dragon (Floon's last known location) and come across a crime scene of a skirmish between Xanathar's Guild and Zhent agents, with three Zhents surviving. They also come across the Old Xorblob shop, a curious store full of everything purple. They learn from Xorblorb that Floon and a similar looking man were jumped by a group of 5 men. He doesn’t provide much more info. At the Skewered Dragon, the party learns that Floon was in the company of Renaer Neverember; the son of the ousted Open Lord of Waterdeep Dagult Neverember. They are advised to go to a warehouse on Candle Lane in the Dock Ward, that is a Zhent hideout.   Doing so, Maise and Gaerreak enter stealtily, surprising some Kenkus. After a fight ensues, they interrogate the lone survivor to learn that Zhents had indeed kidnapped the pair but Floon was taken by Xanathar's Guild agents to the sewers. Shortly after this, Renaer Neverember is discovered in a supply closet, reaking of rotten fish. After introductions are made, the party learns that Zhents are after him believing he knows the location of his father's embezzled gold (he doesn’t) or at least the location of the Stone of Golorr (which could help locate the money). He offers to pay for rooms at a nicer Inn located in the Sea Ward for the night, then accompany them to rescue Floon the next morning.
