Session VIb: Trapped in Soren Report
General Summary
52 Flirel, 429 PE
Gash and Hesior awaken in an unfamiliar cell, restrained at the ankles and wrists, though their wounds have been bound. A guard comes and takes Gash away. After leading Gash in circles through the dungeon, the guard finally brings Gash above ground, into the halls of the Imperial Court. They pass through a hallway in focusing on the Late Imperial Era, and you find first a painting depicting a battle between ancient Felorans and blue, red, and green dragonborns. Nearby, Gash finds a statue of an indeterminate dragonborn (as it is made of stone) wearing what looks like modified Feloran armor from the Northern Invasions. Growing impatient, the guard ushers him to the throne room, but before they can enter, Shom Naa'Lak, a copper dragonborn who happens to be Gash's cousin (on his mom's side), appears before the doors to the throne room. He spends 90 minutes catching up with Gash and laying the sales pitch for the Sacred Knights.
Gash returns with the guard 3 hours later, waking up Hesior who had initially feigned sleeping when footsteps approached his position and disturbed his echo's investigation of the cell. They're lead to a guest room normally reserved for royalty. Before leaving, the guard informs them that Shom will be returning to them soon, and that the Sovereign has invited them to a banquet in the evening, where Gash can meet more of the Sacred Knights and learn of their good work. After removing Hesior's bonds, Gash and him set to investigating the room, however the only thing of note is a prayer idol to the Yira of the concept of homesickness. Their investigations are interrupted with a knock and a note sliding under the door. It's from Princess Ravadi – they're prepared to trade Hesior but Shom is insisting that Gash be his responsibility. The two dragonborn discuss the tough choice presented to Gash by his cousin Shom. Family and clan legacy is brought up, including how Gash & Shom relate to it. Hesior says he was once faced with a similar choice. As the afternoon wanes away and darkness falls, Shom retrieves the two and brings them to Throne room.
The day wraps up with a banquet held in Gash's honor, replete with Sorenian feywine and Ghruzmat rosemary venison soup, and a delectably rich chocolate cake (and more). During the dinner, Shom and Crown Prince Kaelbryn continue to wax poetic about the Knights, and the glory of Feloran civilisation. The Sovereign explains that Feloran society is the only open ancient society, in contrast to the giant families that are scornful of others and don't want to share their wealth of ancient knowledge with the world. Felorans want to share prosperity, he says. Hesior is unconvinced, but Gash, under the influence of the feywine and "charmed" by the Prince's personality, at least hears him out. After dinner, back at their room, they're disturbed by a knock and an entrance by Princess Ravadi who askes:
"You guys wanna get out of here?"
- Crown Princess Ravadi Kaelbryn
