Session IV Report: Well now we're surrounded

General Summary

50 Flirel, 429 PE

The Band returned to Yusuf's encampment to deliver the good news, and to ensure Captain Hosni's request for reinforcements was delivered. However, they found the encampment having recently been under siege by the newly-repaired Sorenian trebuchets firing from the tactically-superior southern banks of the canal. Having been busy the previous night and unable to long rest, the party discussed both the news from Lëra and a plan to pacify the tower and trebuchets in order to allow for Yusuf's people to redeploy to the western approach to Soren.

51 Flirel, 429 PE

The Band sets out under the cover of darkness early in the morning. Riven takes aerial reconnaissance and brings in two allies - a magic semi-sentient weapon and an angelic being. The rest of the party reach the crest of the bridge's approach (as it is rather tall, with wide spans) after 20 minutes, as the sun begins to creep up the eastern horizon. Being elves and able to see in the dark anyway, the trebuchet (one of six) on the bridge begins firing, and combat ensues. The weak Fèlmörn guarding the tower were no match for Faolan and Gash, while all the trebuchets and their crews were no match for the Riven and her accoutrement of pain. After Hesior and Faolan defeated the final rural levies on the stairs to the tower's basement, and while the Band regrouped inside the tower, a loud boom rattled the building, shaking debris and dust falling from the walls and ceiling. Checking outside, they could see that what was likely a travelling projectile of an ancient Feloran Trebuchet, potentially fired from miles away (it requires some way to coordinate targets, however). Riven then takes off to fly back to the encampment to report, while the rest of the team just waits in the tower. After about 20 minutes after she left, a voice called out from the road, speaking fluent common with a thicc Sorenian accent.

Notes

Oyemörn - Probably going to be the most likely to use outmoded tactics (that you will have elves serving that have literally lived for centuries and been training in the use of older weapons nearly as long, and probably have an accompanying professional officer class that has trained in the old ways of war for centuries; it is very unlikely unless visionary officers push for massive modernization that they will have adapted over the centuries), in all likelihood these guys will be either cavalry, or heavily armored and armed heavy infantry, likely home to some of the finest archers and swordfighters (or something else if you'd prefer) in the known world, or something akin to the French Musketeers (think Alexandre Dumas) if they did modernize. Definitely the most likely group to have organized units beyond the shouting distance level.   Fèlmörn - Lightly trained urban and peasant militias almost certainly infantry (except for rural dudes doing law enforcement patrols in the hinterlands who would probably be light cavalry), probably equipped with some mixture of gunpowder, crossbows, and polearms, with more advanced states moving steadily towards pike and shot as time goes forward. Armor is likely going to depend on the wealth of the state, with richer ones providing suits of cheap plate (including breastplate, halfplate, or "three quarters plate" as viable options), or mail armor (or their equivalents) more than likely, and poorer states providing padded armor and a helmet, or no armor at all. If it can be afforded, they might be given small melee weapons (swords, daggers, axes etc.) as sidearms.   Tèlmur - A mixed of highly skilled siege engineers to aim the weapons, and lightly trained peasants to load the weapons. They'll be using whatever they can get their hands on, or construct, and with the crews lightly armored and equipped (maybe they'll have padded armor and sidearms, or maybe not)
