Into the Underfell

General Summary

After the party recovered from their fight with abominations, a safe distance away from the ruins, they returned to the site. This time they were more cautious and prepared for their fight with abominations. With the creatures topside defeated, the heroes headed down a tunnel that lead far below the ground.

Here the air grew stale and chilly and the steep tunnel took some care to keep from slipping and falling. After several hundred yards they came to a further drop, straight down into darkness. After securing some ropes and an anchor, they were able to descend another 100 feet where they found themselves in the small cavern. In front of them, embedded, was the wall of house, and a shattered window leading into the house.

When the Cataclysm struck, not only was the town of Everfell destroyed, with much of the buildings left in ruins (as seen above), but also large parts of the town was swallowed up by the land. Parts such as this house. Not only was the house pulled down into the depths of this new Underfell, but the building was also on its side, so as the party stepped into the room, they were standing on the wall, with the ceiling now their left wall, and floor, now the right wall.

The white marble fireplace, mostly intact lay on the wall-floor and stood between the party and the stairs they need to travel to explore the rest of the house. Before they could leave this part of the building, almost a dozen snakes poured of the long cold fireplace and began attacking the party. Their strikes, both piercing and venomous wounded many of the heroes. After the last of the snakes were dispatched, the party continued on their way.

As the party continued to make their way through the Underfell, they picked up stray pieces of another volume of the Book of Names. Following the trail, it lead them to another buried building. Half crushed, the buried building served as a temple to "Emidis", one of the many false gods that were created after the Cataclysm.

Within the temple they were confronted by more abominations as well as a pair of iron constructs. In the back of the fallen temple was a large cylinder, caps with black iron and filled with cloudy liquid. Suspended inside the liquid was a floating brain. From out of the top of the jar, a tinny voice could be heard.

"We have waited for you Kiara. Come, the Green Manalishi has a place for you."

The remaining creatures began attacking the rest of the party. As the battle began to turn in the party's favor, the brain summoned one of the otherworldly abominations to it's side, where the creature prostrated itself before the jar. The jar embedded tentacles in the creature and used it as a mount to help escape. But the party was not allowing anyone to leave and with a deft blow, cracked the jar, instantly killing the foul creature within.

Afterward, the party gathered up another volume of the Book of Names, and other treasures. Glass was interested in taking the iron monger constructs back to her work station to see if she could recreate one from the remaining parts of the two here. In order to make space, it was decided to leave behind the head of the Ankheg queen they had killed earlier. It was left on the throne as they departed.
