Session 7: Escape from the Temple of the Sanguine Scales Report

General Summary

Lady Spore had opened the door to her cell to find Tork's bag of holding with a key ring sitting on top, one of which unlocked her Shadowsteel manacles, restoring her connection to nature and the world around her. She quickly took stock of what was in the bag: her Belt of Sacrifice, magical fan, studded leather, and mystery key, Tork's cloak and armor, and a suspiciously large amount of rations, mainly consisting of Mushrooms ang Fungi of the Underdark. While she was occupied searching the bag she heard a grunt of pain and a thud from down the hallway towards the entrance. After quickly preparing herself for danger she set off and found a dead Yuan-Ti with a dagger in his back on a branch deeper in, outside of Tork's cell. After releasing him, they checked the body, Tork Rezo claiming the guard's great axe and Lady Spore the dagger, and noticed an unusual necklace predominantly featuring the non-precious stones that were teal and red, which they have learned that denotes either a familial or political grouping. They checked the nearby cells and found a beautiful woman, with blue flowing hair, one Chalan Darante, or Chay. They offered her freedom which she gladly accepted. While they were discussing plans of escape they heard the approach of someone from deeper within the prison. Lady Spore and Chay quickly hid in her cell while Tork played dead on the floor. After turning the corner the guard immediately saw through Tork's act and approached to recapture the escaped prisoner, giving Lady Spore and Chay the element of surprise and they quickly killed the guard. They noticed that this guard had a belt with teal and red accents on it, like the guards before. They know the Yuan-Ti have a lot of political power structure and were relatively sure that it belonged to one of them, rather than a guard uniform, but didn't know which faction the colors corresponded to. Tork and Lady Spore decided to break out the rest of the inmates and use their escape as a distraction, then get Ogron Trevette and Rastlin Deepsilver and break into the pyramid at the bottom of the cavern. There were 4 large group cells in the entrance hall, and a guard room right before the exit, so they quietly unlocked all the cells and prisoners and coordinated them to all escape at once. While they found Ogron in the second cell, Rastlin was kept separately, in the makeshift quarters for the leader right outside of the temple itself. The prisoners forced their way out, killing the two guards, brutalized their bodies, armed themselves. Tork and Lady Spore didn't find anything else particularly useful in the guard room by the time they made their way through, but did notice the same colors on the guards there. As the prisoners climbed the wall of stairs out, Tork and company headed down towards the tent across the unfilled moat. They made their way in and Tork used his weresnake powers to transform and enter the back portion of the tent, his weapon at the ready. There he confronted a Yuan-Ti with an aura of authority about him, and mass of snakes instead of arms, and two Malisons. After communications failed the leader motioned for them to capture Tork. Lady Spore and Chay joined in to support while Ogron freed Rastlin . A quick and bloody battle ensued with Tork killing one Malison, Lady Spore knocking one out of the tent and dropping into the rock filled moat and out of the battle. As the unnamed leader became seriously wounded and victory looked to be in sight, he grabbed a leather bound notebook from the desk and rolled out under the side of the tent. Tork tried to pursue, but saw that he had gained a truly surprising amount of distance in the few seconds he was out of sight. Due to the high speed winds that Lady Spore conjured in an enclosed environment combined with the battle and all the people and things crashing into and out of the tent, it finally collapsed, with all but Tork making it out unharmed. The party quickly regrouped and went to the rune covered, greenish metal door, finding to their disappointment that there was no mundane way to open it. Ogron Trevette and Rastlin Deepsilver were able to make out something about a specific artifact, a cube, that could be used to allow entry. The party gave up and decided to deal with the now more imminent need to escape and scaled up the wall of stairs and out into the tunnels, to look for a way out of the underdark.
