A not so very warm welcome... Report

General Summary

The party started out in the woods outside Triel, as they neared the city they were feeling very relived to know the long trek would soon be complete.   Muttonchops had just asked them for yet another cookie while complaining that the cart laden with the clients shipment was way too heavy and he couldn't possible take another step, at least not without another cookie.   It was at the moment that the road ahead was blocked by a smart ass goblin tough guy named Zazzle. His pompous attitude and utterly degenerate tone quickly rubbed the party the wrong way. The party unanimously told him to piss off.   Zazzle having been given the snub, called forth a volley of arrows from his crew of archers stationed in the trees surrounding the party. An orgy of pillaging ensued, and many goblins found their way to the afterlife at the hands of the brave adventures. With Grommet, Aegis and Gumby circling the wagon the looters were forced to resort to more and more desperate acts of gymnastics to attempt their pillaging, many paying a stinging reprimand at the swift hands the party.   One particularly unlucky goblin having been tossed from his high perch in the tree by Grumogs resounding bullrush of the trunk, flew ungracefully through the air landing square on his face in the middle of the road swiftly breaking his neck.   One last menacing roar by the intimating barbarian and the remaining goblin looters dropped their plunder and ran disappearing into one of the many secret tunnels, hidey holes and blinds performing a near magical disappearing act.   Having cleared the present danger the party found themselves confronted with the question of what to do with a dying goblin with an obviously broken neck. Grommets attempts to stabilize him with a splint while a good idea would take too long, but preparations to do so were begun. A risky decision to load him in to the wagon for later questioning should he live was a miraculous success. It was then that Gumby had the idea to attempt an ingenious if somewhat ethically questionable deception. Reaching into the goblins mind - he planted a vision of a message from the gods that the goblin should relinquish his loyalty to Zazzle and cooperate with the party. This profoundly affected the poor beast simple mind and he was a convert- believing he'd just had a divine intervention. Besides he never liked Zazzle and was pretty sure Zazzle was just a lacky doing the bidding of some more powerful an malevolent and mysterious figure.   I few hours later the party found themselves at the front gates of Triel. A rather impressive fortified city, but obviously one struggling with some worrisome issues, made most obvious by the suspicious lack of guards on duty. Having sweet talked the guard and his captain into allowing the party into the city with an unconscious and hog tied goblin in tow the party is led to the clients shop only to find out that they have been victims of the mysterious plague that has been ravishing the city.   Keeping the delivery as their consolation pay for the job, the party is taken to the Wench and Mug by Captain Kaelen. When attempting to books rooms they are a bit surprised that the W&M is not in fact a tavern but a brothel - oops The party soon finds a way to win over the proprietor of the establishment with a fantastical vibrating rod of wonder tinkered together by Grommet.   While the party is getting settled in, a few shocking revelations come to light. A confrontation between Basil and captain Kaelen reveals that Basil is being blackmailed into tampering with rats and helping to spread the plague. Having broken free of the captains grasp Basil flees the brothel leaving behind a bag of live rats and a menacing letter from a dark figure named Deaths Door.   Aegis quicky disposed of the rats in the fire, shortly after the party realizes that they might in fact be carrying the plague.   An emotional outburst from the barmaid Matilda revealed that her best friend and prostitute Maly Glowe is missing for days now. It's also revealed that Basil is hopelessly in love with her and so is the town Mayor Stomund Pary - though his wife might have a problem with that.   The party vowed to help find Maly, trying to reassure Matilda that she would be ok.

Grommet's Notes:

On trip to Triel, a grumpy loud companion sheep hauling the cart keeps asking for cookies.   We're on an unkempt path when we hear a unusual sound. Gibbering is in the distance so we cautiously prepare as we move towards the noise... we send the sheep (Muttonchop) to forage and encounter a goblin.   hit by arrows after I refuse to give the goblin my goods -3dmg   we survive the goblin swarm given time, and even manage to take one prisoner. his neck broken, we get him into the cart and after a sworn oath to no longer follow Zazzle the goblin and follow the party, Grommet agrees to see about restoring his health.   Triel is a town, with all basic amenities. Captain Kalen bars our entry until we convince him a quadraplegic goblin isn't a threat. He's been struggling to deal with the goblins as they're short staffed. We offer to help. We try to make our delivery, but the recipients died of a mysterious plague that's been affecting the whole region. We hope to investigate that as well. We finally move to the Inn and settle in for the night.   The inn is called the Wench and Mug, and it's a local brothel. we barter a room and a few extra days after crafting some magic vibrators. the proprietor's (Mathilda) best friend is missing and hid it for a week until today...so we have another quest.   She was heading to her fathers cottage when she disappeared and he came to town looking for her.   Grommet stabilized the goblin, Malie is the missing girl, the prettiest in town, a blonde human. There used to be a bouncer, Tad, but he passed away. Next session Gumby wants to investigate Tad's house.   In the bar, a hooded man who's been drinking starts to argue with Captain Kalen. Kalen believes the hooded man who is supposed to be getting rid of the rats in the town, and has been being protected by the Mayor. The rat catcher protests his innocence and leaves. As he leaves, several live rats fall with a slip of paper that Aegis deftly grabs. The note reads something along the lines of "Basil I have taken something very precious from you; in the coming weeks you must feed certain substances to the rats as I have foretold. - Deaths Door. "   Gumby investigates the rat for magical influence and does not find anything. There are fleas on the rats and are crawling around on the bag. Aegis burns the rats in the hearth of the brothel.   We show the note to Captain Kalen. Kalen suspects Malie might be the "precious thing" as Basil has a thing for her. He was obsessed with her and taking her away. She was interested in Stomen, who the Captain won't discuss with us.   Aegis convinces Kalen to let us know Stomen is the Mayor, who is married but has had an affair. The Mayor did not know Malie is missing. The goblin we have is named Pogo.
