Horrors at the Asylum - Finale Report

General Summary

As soon as portal re-opened, members of the New Champions team began to return from the prison along with those who had been held captive. Sandcrab, Wildthing, and Nemesis explained how they had been trying to determine which prisoners were good and which were bad. At the same time, three beings appeared at the far side of the inter-dimensional portal paired with protective devices floating behind them — one of them was enormous, a monstrous looking giant with claws on his hands and what looked like hooves on his feet. He roared aloud “Surrender or DIE!!” The two individuals flanking him appeared to be soldiers with cybernetic implants, weapons drawn.   To complicate matters, a building began to materialize near Blue Wave and Faust, a dark and dimly lit laboratory with nefarious-looking devices and several dead bodies.   Faust recognized the room immediately. Blue Wave did also. This was where he was scheduled to be “decommissioned” today...where his DNA would be extracted and synthesized. A large briefcase was still located near the operating table, containing dozens of vials, full of genetic material.   The moment was too much for Blue Wave, and he succumbed to flashbacks and mental trauma.   But the New Champions sprang into action against their new foes...quickly recognizing that the protective devices were reducing their effectiveness.   Thinking quickly, Faust deployed a field of darkness around the combatants. Being able to see sufficiently using the radio spectrum as his guide, Sandcrab tunneled up and grabbed one of the protective devices. He began to crush it, but the device was solid metal with a protective outer layer. Nemesis used her sword to slice it in half.   The battle continued, with Ghost flying through the darkness field and into one of the soldiers, who was unmoved by her attack. Sandcrab continued targeting the protective devices, destroying another one.   Meanwhile, their largest foe (the “Hunter”) leapt out of the darkness field and onto a spot directly in front of Faust...swinging at him with his claws...but Faust was able to maneuver away from the attack.   With his protective device destroyed, the team continued their barrage of attacks at him, quickly wearing him down. Ultimately Ghost, with her signature flying punch, brought him to his knees...   The remaining soldiers were no match for the New Champions. As the team surrounded the last soldier, he cowered in front of Wildthing as she sneered, “Surrender or DIE...” repeating the words that had been spoken by his leader only moments ago.   Caught between programming and fear, the cyber solider twitched back and forth, unable to submit to their demands. Ultimately, Nemesis resolved the moment with well-placed knock-out punch.   With the conflict resolved, the team turned their attention to the laboratory that had appeared in the inter-dimensional pathway. Blue Wave snapped out of his mental torment and explained to the group that this would’ve been his fate had it not been for the disruption Julie/Istvatha had caused.   With a tone of finality, Socrates spoke again through the Portal Bot still standing unscathed near the exit portal, “Cypher, I think it is time to reconnect the portal...but, please let me direct the final instruction.”   Cypher connected to the portal, using his ability to control machines...and the portal began to search for its ‘pair’ on the other side...but Socrates redirected it to the DEMON base portal the team had commandeered only months ago.   When the team walked through the exit portal, instead of returning to the Asylum (from where they came), they stepped onto the ground of their recently converted DEMON base...now also having stolen a secret inter-dimensional prison from NexHuman.   Score two points for the good guys.
