Unfinished Business Part 4 - The Cave Mother Report

General Summary

During the previous cave escapades, Maximum Resistance had been engrossed in the abandoned DEMON lair's computer systems. Now, finally able to make sense of the system's mixture of technology and mystic arts, he shares with the group that there is a sentient magical-artificial intelligence of sorts helping to defend the lair. The intelligent being went by the name of "Mother".   But back at Homestead, Sean Rogers -- the last Silver Avenger -- is certain that DEMON didn't have that type of technology and also confirms that no one entered the lair since they "vanished" three years ago. Whatever this female-voiced intelligence is, it is not DEMON. Primus would've known about this...and he is certain this isn't from DEMON.   The rest of the New Champions, faced with the mysterious sound of low rumbling behind the doors in front of them (where Windwalker had just 'poofed' two small golems) are redirected toward the sound of wailing and screeching from afar.   Faust, who had mimic'd the powers of the golems and gained rocky skin also heard the plea from a female voice, "Come to me, my children! I am in peril!"   Needless to say, the team raced toward the sound of wailing and screeching - springing into action against a room full of demons appearing to fight against the stone golems...the same golems the team had been fighting against earlier.   The team agreed that, maybe, the golems weren't malevolent after-all...and instead, they chose to fight against the demons.   For a while, Faust was engaged in a fierce struggle against two demons at once...but Ghost, Nemesis, and Windwalker helped joined the fray and subdued the beast. It was Nemesis' final blow "starting in the Deep South" that finally did it in.   Similarly, Max pulverized the remaining demon with arcs of electrical current - blasting it across the cave and into the wall. But ultimately, the continuous spray of venomous spittle from Wildthing's asp-form caused the demon-beast to succumb under intense pain.   Once the demon reapers were subdued, the group moved onto the ensuing battle between a faceless demon and two large stone golems. Ghost careened across the room with blazing speed and knocked the demon to the ground. The stone golems took that opportunity and pummeled the remaining faceless demon with stones, knocking it unconscious.   There was only just a moment to breathe though. As the team looked forward, the hallway opened up into a large and expansive room filled with more tormented frogs (similar to ones that had previously filled the repair bay).   The frogs were covering an enormous shimmering-golden mass of ooze that filled almost half of the cave. As the frogs leapt onto the shimmering ooze, they tore out pieces of the 'creature'. More waling could be heard throughout the caves as the ground shuddered.   And Faust could hear in his mind again, "My children, pleeeaaaase! I am in peril!"   Watch a video of the session below.
