Trouble in Chinatown - Series Finale Report
General Summary
The New Champions returned from the destruction (and defeat) of The Ancestor to find that Chinatown was abandoned amidst the appearance of not one, but SEVEN ancestral orbs — the predecessor to what eventually became The Ancestor, destroying cities and taking the lives of thousands. And so the New Champions stepped across the now visible energy field surrounding Chinatown, heading directly toward the early-forming ancestral orbs. Once making invisible the use of powers by underground Chinese clans, the force field was now visible — presumably no longer affording the same power invisibility. But the heroes would never know, as the small Chinatown nestled inside Millennium City was empty. Maximum Resistance determined that the orbs wouldn’t transform into Ancestors for another five minutes or so…giving the team a bit of time to ‘contain’ or destroy them. Each of the heroes made their attempt at destroying an orb. Ghost, the strongest of the team, charged at one of the orbs, incurring a painful shock of energy from the orb, bringing her to the edge of consciousness — the orb was unfazed. Sandcrab attempted to strike the same orb with his insulated claws, multiple times…but the result was the same, except that Sandcrab’s multiple touches did, in fact, push him into unconsciousness. From that point forward, the heroes would attack the orbs with light-poles and other ranged objects. Maximum Resistance and Lil’Rocket released lightning blasts and electrical bolts at them, to no avail. Ghost found a container and swooped underneath one of the orbs, flying it upward with great effort. She flew to Earth’s orbit with the orb and then returned to Millennium City’s Chinatown, leaving the orb behind. Upon her return, Ghost could see that Destroids had appeared near to where the orbs were floating. The New Champions warily decided not to fight against the Destroids, given that they were also attacking the orbs…though nearly as ineffective at ‘shrinking’ them as were the heroes. However, Cypher and Lil’Rocket weren’t so willing to ignore the Destroids. Lil’Rocket zoomed around them, dis-assembling their arms and weaponry. Cypher and Stevie lazer’d and pulse-blasted another Destroid. Eventually, Lil’Rocket was able to totally disarm one Destroid, making it unable to attack whatsoever. But the Destroid quickly changed tactics, moving to the orb, grabbing it and initiating its own self-destruct protocol…successfully exploding the orb, disintegrating it into particles of dust. The team was learning the best method of effectively reducing the orbs into nothingness when Maximum Resistance noticed the orbs were nearing their transformation-state…and a catastrophic explosion in the center of Millennium City. The heroes would not be able to destroy them all in time. But then Doctor Destroyer appeared. “You foolish ‘heroes’. Fighting against my Destroids when the fate of the city is in the balance! I will save the world, once again!!” And with that, he flew to the nearest ancestral orb and destroyed it with a single blast. He moved on to the next one, swiftly destroying it as well. The New Champions, witnessing the overwhelming power of Doctor Destroyer — obliterating the orbs in a single blow…made the decision to retreat with haste. Doctor Destroyer continued to obliterate the remaining orbs….but not before Sandcrab tagged him with a nanite tracker. Having dispatched with the remaining orbs, Doctor Destroyer then teleported away…with Sandcrab’s tracker dropping to the ground. Moments later, high in the sky floating in orbit above Earth, the one remaining ancestral orb transformed into an Ancestor with an enormous explosion…destroying hundreds of satellites — interrupting communications and air traffic across a large swath of the planet. The Ancestor floated above the Earth, looking down at the planet, considering what to do next. Watch the entire video below:
