Session 14: A Small Setback

General Summary

Upon encountering the wyvern sleeping on top of the pile of shields they began to carefully sneak around to try and investigate the rest of the dungeon, leaving Sigmund as a watch to warn them should the wyvern wake up. After entering some nearby rooms, they accidentally tipped over another pile of wooden shields, which woke the dragonoid beast. The monster flew towards the party, and as Sigmund was the closest, he was devoured by the monster. A fight ensued.    The wyvern slipped around above the group along the roof, but they still managed to get some hits in. After Pander, who had tried to sneak around the fight, came out of the wyvern treasury he became its prime target had was brought down by the poisonous sting of its tail. But with the aid of Ushrir, he managed to survive. In the end they managed to fell the beast and began to loot its treasures, finding two magical shields they brought with them.   Pander managed to find a secret hidden room with a lone pedestal housing a ring. Without further investigation he grabbed the ring, which promptly exploded, knocking him unconscious. Ushrir once again healed him, but after being brought back the gnome decided to immediately put the ring on his finger, to which another explosion ensued, this time centered on the gnome. Only a pile of charred and ashy chunks remained after that, as well as, the magical items he had been carrying.    The bag of holding, which had housed the fiery shard from Brandenheim, was empty save for a parchment roll. A contract. It described how the items in the bag had apparently been transferred to Pander's Patron upon his death. The group then cut their losses and left the dungeon, content that they wouldn't find anything else down there.    When they exited they were faced with the werewolves, and especially Thomas' brother Butch, ready for their duel. Thomas, on the other hand, having reflected on his actions, surrendered the fight and gave the broken sword of the Gaston family to Butch. The older brother was dumbfounded and didn't say a word as Thomas left to head back to Hirschenheim with the rest.    Along the way, during the night they were awoken by a strange tigerlike being, a Rakshasa named Jal'brom. Pander's former patron. He had brought them the shard, but in return required a couple of favors, since he had now lost a servant. These favors were to be disclosed at a later time, but when Thomas stepped up to take the deal, he refused to be the direct source of an innocent's death. Hence the deal was made, five favors in return for the shard, and with Thomas' soul as collateral.   After this encounter they made it back to Hirschenheim to plan for the future and prepare to journey ahead.
