Session 24: Storms and Stealing Report
General Summary
We find our party in the waters outside of the Tower of Blinking lights, whose Lights are playing wild. A storm is moving in from the sundown side of the bay and dark clouds of looming. Soren casts water walk on the party, while the waves are still shallow, and they see their Fishing boat not that far away just as agreed. In the minutes it takes them to arrive at the boat they fill in Thordunn on the happenings in the tower, and their dealings with Gismose. Shortly after they arrive on the boat, but to their surprise there is no fisher on it, only Uradil who exclaims that he assumed it was their fault that the tower was playing crazy, and that the fisher refused to sail out into the coming storm. quickly, the wind is picking up power, and everyone readies for the ordeal to come. Uradil is not a professional sailor and is steering the rudder. As waves start to crest over the edge of the shallow keeled fishing boat, Thordunn and Killian go into the bilge to fasten the ballast which had come loose. Aboard deck Soren Strengthens Uradil with the strength of the bull and Muck Yuk fumbles with the sail. This is but the prelude of the ordeal about to befall the party, as they scramble to scoop water out of the ship, Turning the mast, bring in the sail, bring out the oars and many other actions to keep the ship from sailing. At one point 4 floating spectrally glowing jellyfish appear, and seem to float motionlessly around the ship, despite the latters great speed. Their eerie beauty charms Killian and Thordun keeping them from contributing for a while. This quickly results in catastrophe with the boat listing heavily, and the mast under intense strain. Uradil binds himself to the side and hangs over the edge, putting as much weight opposite of the list, the mast cracks in two and threatens to drage the ship with it , but Thordunn, having been broken free of the spell by Killians Dulcet voice, hacks it free in wild abandon, too late he realizes that one of the Ropes held Uradil, who plummets overboard. Quickly reacting Soren puts the oar out for Uradil to grab before being swept away, with killians help they manage to hold on to the tug of uradil , and drag him to the board. One of the Jellyfish makes Uradil catatonic, but luckily Soren already has him grabbed and brings him onboard. The PArty is exhausted, but the waves are now with them, bringing them closer and closer to the harborfront of Nelak at a terrifying speed. MukYuk dispatches the Jellyfish with his Elemental Slingshot. With a massive crash, the remaining parts of the fishing boat are smashed into the harbor wall. Killian jumps and gently floats to the ground, Muk Yuk dextrously rolls of a crashing plank, while Thordun stoutly lands on his feet. Soren and Uradil though crash to the ground with great force- groggy, exhausted, but alive. The sky is still completely darkened by the dark stormclouds, and the city seems empty, making their way to the Silver Fish Inn they are faced with a disbelieving owner, who thought they had died, and informs them, that all of their items had been confiscated by the Governors men. This angers the party greatly, but they choose to deal with it in the morning. Killian regails the people in the Tavern with a new Composition about their harrowing sailing trip. Waking up and having an awesome Shrimp breakfast the Group decides to go to Gaswin Kretors palace and demand their stuff back, especially soren is upset over dorothy nearly frothing at the mouth. Arriving at the palace they are faced with two guards infront of the closed gate, as the palace is sorrounded by a wall. Asking for an audience they are told that the governor will first be available in 3 days. For soren these words are the ultimate act of violence and he storms the gate with a kick, despite the guards warnings and the spear grazing his ribs he tries to kick it down and when that fails tries to polymorph one of the guards into a jellyfish. When this fails aswell, and the guard in question raises the alarm, fleeing from the gate the party finds itself in a standoff with the musket wielding reinforcements on the wall. The rest of them not being ready to commit mass murder of people who are just doing their job, try to talk, and killian magically forces a guard to reveal the location of the depot where their confiscated goods are, before the other people can shut him up the information is revealed, and the party runs at full speed away. Killians hears a shouted :" to the depot! " from inside the walls. A few minutes later they make it to the depot in question, and what follows is a heist unlike anyone in nelak has ever heard of. Killian straight up bribes the guards after his illusionary document fails to convince the guards, and he spends a couple of minutes making a real forged letter for them alongside 600 gold into the two guards pockets, while this happens Muk, Soren and Thordun go into the courtyard, and immediatly split up, each masterfully finding the stolen valuables, the horses and dorothy, and the wagon respectively. Just a minute later, before any of the guards can react the wagon is hitched, the strongbox is found and the Party rides at high speed down the road, just as reinforcement arrives. Soren summons a stone wall behind them hindering the pursuers and they quickly swing by the Silver Fish for Uradil before gunning it out of town at high speed. At the Sundown Gate, where they first entered the city a couple weeks before, a very confused guard asks them to stop before being trampled by the wagon and its crew. not stopping A healing word from Soren though seems to fix any physical damage as the guard had luckily survived the trampling. an hour of high speed gallop into the rain and the party slows to a more manageble pace and at the end of the day they arrive at the riverhead of the swelling river kro, and hitch a ride down to nadigav on one of the Clavus barges. with the river moving along their path of movement rather than against it thistime they find themselves at Nadigav just a few days later, Probably faster than any pursuers could have thought possible. And best thing of all- Its market day!
