Session 1: A Big and Spontaneous Party in Upper Karst Report
General Summary
Sam goes outside the tavern she currently resides in, and immediately finds Trevor Gneiss. Soon joined by Evelenn, the three head towards the mansion. Getting there, they first witness Jared being mugged by three teens: An orc and two dwarves. The mugging goes horribly, and just before it gets violent, Sam levitates the orc. Simultaneously, a strange Drow appears right behind the remaining thugs. Spooked, the teens run off, so Jared and Malos can introduce themselves and join the party. Sam, an illusionist, is hired for entertainment. Embarrassingly, Trevor already had hired Evelenn to do card tricks and the like, doubling down on shows for the aristocracy. Jared was already invited as a guest in his ‘’partner’’ Brunel’s stead. Malos, being temporarily stuck in a new and hidden corner of the planes, decides he has nothing better to do. Entering the mansion, they are greeted by Halvon, a bard working as waiter. Trevor takes the role as employer as he explains him and Bilgar Gneiss needs them to make the evening entertaining and smooth for First Dean Yarron’s sake. It’s his sixth month in the new position, and he hopes to use the occasion to get a meeting with the infamous Arch Druid Yvonne Hearth, whom he is infatuated with. The party gets accustomed. Jared manages to strike a business deal with Ilver Snubb, the dwarven pharma-mogul from afar. Malos gets on Yarron’s good side (if he has one) as an academic from the faraway Galloway University, which the Dean definitely has visited. Sam impresses the Dean with a light show. Halvon keeps everyone satisfied with wine, including Evelenn, whom grabs a bottle and promptly impresses the club-entrepreneur Half-Orc Ness Reed with a pick-pocket trick. Following the deal, Jared gets to producing new shrooms, while both him and Evelenn bickers about toilet use, while watched by busy chef-goblins. Jared is also promised a course in evocation for his children by the horribly burned Professor Jeb. As the music gets even more stale, being played by animated instrument, Halvon and Sam takes charge. Doing a great rendition of The Ark of Dawn, they get a dance started for a few guests. The abbess present, who had been preoccupied with healing Nurse Nancy, gets down to the beat. Evelenn uses the opportunity to dance with the senile judge, whom she tells knows her from a six month vacation to the city of Ja’il. While struggling to sync other songs, the musicians are interrupted by the arrival of the guest of honour. Outside, the whole party sees the Arch Druid Yvonne arrive, then immediately dash of after an animal companion. They follow and find the three teens from before harassing a shack serving as shelter for urchin Ratkin. The party stands up for Yvonne before she can deal with the teens, and promptly fights them. In a bold dare, Malos urges the orc to attack, and swiftly stabs him four times with his rapier, reducing the orc to a near-lifeless state. Sam gently suggests the Dwarf girl run. No questions asked. Jared then puts on a terrifying display of fungal possession, distracting the remaining dwarf boy, leaving him open to the good old pull-all-your-clothes-off performed by Evelenn. Having dealt with the rowdy teens, only with one barely avoided death, Yvonne returns to the mansion with the group. There, First Dean Yarron is thrilled. He does however not get much word in, as Yvonne is more concerned with her Ratkin children being mistreated in the big city. She asks for any help, and Jared is bright with ideas, while Malos brings up the concept of higher taxes for certain tax brackets. Yarron, a forever realist, is sceptical. Jared is promised both new classes for his kids and guidance in the druidic by Yvonne if he can help with this. The discussion ends with Yarron at least securing one more date with the druid and is also possibly on board with the concept of an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and mushroom-based home for the small folk. With Yvonne leaving, the Dean replaces dinner with a showcase of his rare items: One clearly worthless leather cap, a magical tuning fork, and an astrolabe with the power of divination. Jared, remembering the tuning fork from an earlier incident, asks to hold it. Reluctant but curious, the Dean allows it. Jared experiences a dream like state, feeling his affliction return, his memories hazed, and visions of his child dead in his arms. Coming to, crying, he returns the fork. As Yarron finally starts urging guests to leave, Halvon uses the lack of attention to disguise himself as the sleeping Gnome Professor Jeb Hedgemire. Many inches too tall, he barely shakes of suspicion from the Professor’s student attending the party, as well as Jared, tasked with guarding the valuables. As Sam is putting on a huge illusion to get people out, Jared is convinced the tie he is wearing on his head must be in another room. Exchanging a silent oath to mischief, Malos distracts the Dean with race-ideology, a hug, and magical darkness, while Halvon steals the Astrolabe, replacing it with a fake through creation magic. Evelenn, forever the kleptomaniac, can’t resist not leaving the place half-robbed, and makes way with the final two items. The evening ends with Jared confused, drunk, and successful in landing a deal involving two days straight of shroomomancy. Sam gets acclaim as a proper party-illusionist, available for birthdays, company parties, and events. Malos, now hiring ‘’assets’’, has new contacts in this strange new world. Halvon stealthily sneaks out his loot, hides it in the aforementioned shack, before returning and receiving pay as well as Malos’ entire reward. Evelenn sneaks out the kitchen window, picking up appetizers before sneaking off with an useless flashy leather cap and a possibly dangerous magical tuning fork.
