Recap

Iuil 17 though Lunasa 6, 3032: Year of Ruin

in this shorter session, the Omens parted ways with Dorian and left Helorix, travelling north to return to the Carthelian estate. When they arrived, they found a group of adventurers already outside, learning that they had heard of this dungeon from a druid further north and decided to investigate, hoping of striking it rich as was rumored another group already had. Unfortunately, they were not as lucky, being defeated by the chain devil guardian; though one of their companions, a rogue, managed to use a scroll of dimension door to get deeper in.   The rogue's fortune would not last, however, as after bypassing the first few rooms and their traps, the Omens found his body, killed by a flame lash trap in a sacraficial chamber. Above the southern door, they found empty hooks that could be used to hang a ceremonial coat of arms upon; two ceremonial swords and a shield, one of which they had already found in previous chamber. Exploring eastward, the party unlocked a guards room that had a list of names and dates, each of which strangely lined up with major historical events that skewed towards the Aurelian Empire's favor. They also found the dead body of someone Ilya identified as a Pathfinder; a secret society who seemed to play both sides of the War, running on an agenda lost to time, as the Planeswalkers' Folly decimated their number, leaving few remaining. On their body was a note that read:
The bastards caught me, but not before I squirreled away their precious akrafena. For any Pathfinder who follows, should you need gain access to their sanctum, I've hidden their missing weapon where the sun kisses the sea. The missing akrafena has locked the doors and they've fallen behind on their quota, gods forbid they damage their santcuary. We'll see what gives first, their will to live or their devotion to their pact. I can feel myself slipping the Mortal coil now. May the Sands be kind.
— The note trails off
Exploring the route to the west, the party met Ember Carthelian, a nothik, and the youngest member of the Carthelian family; before his transformation, he would have been heir to the estate. However, after the interferance of a Pathfinder, whose body was found in the east prison cells, saw the family trapped in the main meeting hall and falling behind to repay their debt of souls to their patron, Ember turned to dark, cursed secrets in the hopes of saving his house. But he drank too deeply too quickly of the wells of forbidden knowledge and was transformed into a nothik; a creature cursed with madness by the Archivist, tormented by knowledge that is locked just outside their grasp. He helped guide them to a master suite, which he said his father lived in most of the time because he and mother did not get along, where the party found official correspondence from Aurelian Empire officials detailing requests and various troop deployments that they were requesting Carthelian support on. While these letters were suspect, it was not determined if the officials were aware of the pact the Carthelians had struck with an infernal power.   Continuing in this wing, they found a sword called the Aspen Tongue, which seemed to be warm to the touch and sentient; roiling with an internal fire. The session ended when the Omens discovered a book hidden in the library, decaying all around it and even eroding the marble dias upon which it was set. It whispered into their minds with a singular intent: O̸̲̣̾p̷̲̼̀e̷͎̰͋ṋ̵͎̉̃ ̷͚̦̽.
