Hanging with the Mistmaster

Cassidy sneezed and Gazlowe came back from the ethereal plane, “I can’t believe you left the chairs behind!” Isabella didn’t apologize. The party then asked the Mistmaster what he had learned from the books he had been studying. The Mistmaster explained that the only way to reverse the Shadowfell is to offer a living sacrifice of a large celestial creature. They all looked at their new companion Aten. The Mistmaster told them he still needed a few days to read and prepare. He offered the party access to his staff and facilities for them to train or brush up on their research etc. He also told them the Red Lady should arrive in a few days.   The party leveled up to level 16. Gazlowe used his downtime to create a mechanical body for Abby. Juan made some rabbit glue. Cassidy had the necklace of wound closure recharged. Juan had a shield made of dragon scales that grants resistance to poison damage. Ajani found a teleportation circle in the keep of the Mistmaster, he memorized the details of it. He also used his time to transcribe some of the spell scrolls he found into his spellbook. He and Gazlowe also made 6 sending stones that can communicate to each other. Gazlowe gave up grabby to make Isabella a cloak of protection.

Sacrificing Aten

After a couple days, the Mistmaster explained to the party that he had figured out how to reverse the Shadowfell. The stone bearers gathered together, and each participated in the ritual, each stabbing Aten with a small dagger, slowly sacrificing him. After the macabre ritual, they built a funeral pyre and burned the body of Aten out of respect.

Meeting with the red Lady

The next day, the red lady and a large entourage arrived. Victor Rathmore, the man in the golden mask, found the Stone Bearers and invited them into the tent of the Red Lady. The Red lady was with Vandore Hallwinter. Vandore left the Red Lady alone with the Stone Bearers. She again thanked the Stone bearers for helping to establish the alliances with the Dwarves and vampires and humans. (It was clear she was very happy with Vandore.) She explained that the other alliances will be joining them soon, as they are all preparing to march on Hellgate Keep.   She told them there are a few items that they would like help with before the final assault begins. She told them of dark magic that is causing trees to come to life and attack elves. She told them the magic seems to be spreading and could become a serious problem. Gazlowe asked for permission to burn down the forest, but the Red Lady denied it. She asked that the source of the magic be stopped so that more trees aren’t turned into an army of evil Treants.   She also told the party of a trusted Djinn (Zomissi) who has recently turned. She told them that Zomissi has long been a trusted clothier, designing some of the most beautiful elven dresses in the forest. However, she has recently learned that he is in league with Niptu and has been abducting elves. Juan asked, “If we capture the Djinn will he grant us wishes?” The Red Lady told them that he’s more likely to attack and try to kill them.   She told the Stone Bearers that she is also working with the brothers in Arms but since she met with the Stone Bearers first, they have first choice of which danger they wanted to face. The Stone Bearers chose to go after the Djinn. The Red Lady provided the details of the location of Zomissi’s mansion. The party took a long rest, restocked their supplies and headed to Zomissi’s mansion in the morning. The mansion was a 2 day walk from the Citadel of the Mists. The druids (and Orist) were pre-occupied with other tasks, so the Stone Bearer’s had to walk.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Djinn.

As the party approached a river, there was a small wooden bridge and on the other side of the river was a 30-foot tall, very steep hill. The party could not see the top of the hill, but they heard a voice shout out, “There!” A large steel retriever charged down the hill towards the party. A death knight walked forward and stood at the top of the hill. He then pointed at the party and a host of creatures came forth including a Gray Render, a Zombie T-Rex, a couple of Ogre Zombies and a Revenant.   Isabella raged and pulled out her oath bow and targeted the fast-approaching retriever. The Death knight saw the group all huddled around Juan, and he hurled a hellfire orb directly at Juan and hit everyone. Ajani was hurt the worst and was badly bloodied by the orb. Juan rode bird into the air so he could see the top of the hill. He looked directly at the Death Knight and held out his Talisman. The Death knight was not able to resist the magic as a fissure opened below his feet and he fell into it and was destroyed.   With the leader destroyed, the party was able to kill all its minions. The battle was rough, but the Stone Bearers prevailed. Once the battle was over Gazlowe spent some time examining the mechanical retriever. He learned how to make one. It would be a difficult process and require some special components but knew he Gazlowe could do it.   They looked at the decapitated Grey Render and found it had 1 egg on it. The party worked together and artificially kept the Grey Render alive throughout the night hoping to keep the egg alive as it was about to hatch…
