Session 1: The Meeting Report
General Summary
Our story begins around midday on the deck of the Argyle, a ship headed southbound for Kilead from the Northern seas. Andry, a 3-foot tall, yet very ferocious halfling sits below deck, peoplewatching the crew. Vadania, a tall, intimidating looking Avariel currently stands at the bow of the ship, looking southbound towards the open seas and her hopes for some peace in Kilead. Rothgar, our strong, yet mostly quiet (so far) barbarian stands to the port side of the ship, watching the seas and the people sharing the deck with him.
Captain Alessandro Brego is at the wheel, making decent progress on fairly smooth seas, when Vadania comes up to him, yelling that a small sloop is heading towards the Argyle at a brisk pace, and they don't look very friendly. Brego looks to the port side, sees the sloop, and panics. Immediately after that, the entire ship shakes as the sloop impacts the port side of the Argyle.
Our party immediately jumps into action. Vadania runs to the port side, reaches a grappling hook that one of the pirates had thrown over the side of the ship, and cuts through it, blocking entry onto the Argyle. Andry comes sprinting up the steps from below deck, sees what Vadania is doing, runs to the railing and cuts through another grappling hook rope. In the meantime, Rothgar runs to the stern of the ship, near Brigo, finds the ballista and attempts to hit the tiller on the sloop, managing to hit him in the leg.
At this point, pirates have started making their way onto the Argyle, so Vadania pulls her shield, pops out her magical bow, and shoots an Eldritch's Blast arrow at Pirate 1, hitting him in the shoulder.
Andry, seeing that Pirate 1 is hit, draws her rapier and charges him. She slices him right in the gut, causing even more damage. Unfortunately for Andry, Pirate 2 sees this, and comes after her, slashing her with his sword, injuring her arm.
Pirate 3 is on the deck of the sloop still, attempting to use his crossbow to take out Rothgar, but he missed completely. Right around when Rothgar is dodging crossbow bolts, a magical goose appears in the crow's nest of the Argyle, jumping down and and taking Pirate 2's sword (because how dare Pirate 2 injure Andry! The nerve!), and hops off the side of the ship, disappearing into thin air.
Rothgar, angry that he is a target of crossbow bolts, jumps from the deck of the Argyle onto the main deck of the sloop, landing like a superhero, and immediately rages at Pirate 3. Rothgar swings his greataxe and uppercuts Pirate 3, causing some pretty severe damage.
Vadania casts Eldritch's Blast at Pirate 1, yelling "Die mothaf***er!" smacking Pirate 1 right through the eye socket. He falls over the railing, entrails falling out of him as he goes, never to be seen again.
Meanwhile, Andry attempts to run through Pirate 2's legs to stab him, finding out in the process that he is especially well endowed [ ;) ], and ends up underneath Pirate 2, rather than behind him as intended. She decides, might as well do some damage while I'm here, and stabs him through the junk, causing him major damage. Pirate 2 collapses dead on the deck of the Argyle.
Rothgar decides to finish off Pirate 3, who is so injured he can't attack back, using his greataxe to hit Pirate 3 over the head. Rothgar hits Pirate 3 so hard, he actually cleaves him in half! Then, Rothgar moves closer to the guy at the helm (the Captain), who is attempting to steer the sloop through all of this madness.
The door to the sloop's sleeping quarters opens suddenly, and a man comes out, followed by two more pirates. Feather Cap, the pirate in the lead, yells, "Get the Flyer!" while he goes after Rothgar, swinging his cutlass. Rothgar, thankfully, is a tank, and the cutlass just glances off his shoulder, but he does get hit by Feather Cap's hooked hand, which was trying to go after Rothgar's ribs. Feather Cap misses, glancing Rothgar with the edge of his hook. While Feather Cap and Rothgar are fighting, the two other pirates (Pirate 5 and Pirate 6), attempt to shoot their crossbows at Vadania, but they go wide with their shots, missing her.
The Captain is still valiantly attempting to steer his sloop to keep it from being even more damaged than it was initially from the attack. He pulls his sword and attempts to hit Rothgar one handed and backwards, but misses.
Vadania does not appreciate being attacked, so she flys down to get closer to Pirates 5 and 6, attempting to hit Pirate 5 with her Eldritch's Blast, but misses due to the sail interfering with her focus.
Andry decides it's time to be a badass and slides down one of the grappling hook ropes with her rapier to get onto the sloop. She moves closer to Feather Cap, slashing at him, causing some pretty significant damage. Rothgar gives Feather Cap a smile, lifts his greataxe, and slashes right through his abdomen, hoping his axe doesn't get caught in the mast, since he chopped Feather Cap right in half. Unfortunately for Rothgar, his greataxe is stuck in the mast due to how hard he swung at Feather Cap. As this happens, Rothgar turns back to the Captian, at the tiller, who yells, "oh shit." The Captain doesn't attempt to attack Rothgar again, but instead just yells for him to stop.
Pirates 5 and 6 continue to attempt to take out Vadania, while simultaneously sidestepping to hide behind the mast, away from Rothgar. Pirate 6 fails to hit Vadania with her crossbow bolt, but Pirate 5 hits, causing some piercing damage to Vadania's wing. This just pisses off Vandania more, and she lands, moving closer to Pirate 5, while taking out her rapier, stabbing Pirate 5. Simultaneously, while stabbing Pirate 5, she casts Wrathful Smite, doing psychic damage to Pirate 5 on top of the physical piercing damage. The rapier gets wreathed in shadow, and while stabbing him in the abdoment, Vadania watches Pirate 5's eyes turn black as the light leaves his eyes.
"You sure you don't want to take another step back?" she asks Pirate 6, while awkwardly gyrating her upper body.
Andry moves closer to Pirate 6 and chucks a dagger at her, hitting and causing piercing damage.
Meanwhile, Rothgar looks over his shoulder and sees that the Argyle is still attached to the sloop. He turns to the Captain, asking if he was done fighting, to which the Captain agrees, saying he will just chill at the tiller. Rothgar stands awkwardly behind him, intimidating him, and the Captain continues to look over his shoulder in a very concerned way.
Pirate 6 drops to one knee, lowering her crossbow. Vadania, having heard Rothgar ask the Captain if he surrenders, turns to Pirate 6, asking her if she surrenders, to which Pirate 6 asks, "What about her [Andry]?" Vadania turns to Andry to confirm that Andry won't attempt to kill Pirate 6. Andry states, "Well, she looks really killable, BUT if you think you can handle her, I will vow not to kill her." Pirate 6 has a look of immediate relief on her face, and sets her crossbow down, "I don't think I look that killable..." Rothgar, seeing the exchange, just points to his greataxe in the mast, and Pirate 6 puts her hands out in surrender.
Rothgar and the Captain have a conversation, with Rothgar finding out that there are jewels on the sloop, and that the Captain knows everyone comes through the strait, but this time, the pirates weren't prepared for "the whole superhero thing." Rothgar takes over the wheel, and states that he is keeping the ship. He turns to Vadania and Andry, asking if they are going back to the Argyle. Vadania just looks at him and says, "Nah Ima stay." Andry, in a much calmer manner, says she is staying too. As Rothgar is telling Captain Brego that they are staying on the sloop, Brego starts yelling, "WOOO YOU CAUGHT HIM. SILVIO THE BASTARD, YOU GOT HIM!!" The Captain of the sloop, Silvio Solana, is highly offended at being called a bastard.
As the sloop continues to sail to Kilead, the party learns that Silvio is from Kilead, but was denied his birthright and now needs money in order to buy his home back. Andry is reminded that there are jewels on the sloop, and the party agrees to a three-way split, and that they will let Silvio go if he promises to stop pirating against the Kileadrian people's ships.
There's a puff of smoke and a bundle reappears in Vadania's hands, which no one actually asks about... and conversation continues about what the party should do with the prisoners. Andry states, somewhat sadly, that "there is no absolute need to have him killed," and they decide that they likely won't kill the prisoners.
Andry and Vadania go searching the sloop for the jewels, and Rothgar informs Brego that he can go ahead, as the party is keeping the sloop. Vadania and Andry find some jewels in a chest, and in another chest, a goose is rummaging around. Vadania attempts to pet the goose, but he skitters around her, honking, and steals her rapier. The goose then attempts to run away, and Vadania casts Eldritch's Blast at him. The goose turns, notices Eldritch's Blast coming his way, and disappears in a puff of smoke, and Vadania's rapier clatters to the ground. After continuing their search, the girls also find three more grappling hooks stowed away.
Meanwhile, Rothgar talks to Silvio and Kellan, Pirate 6, about them helping keep the sloop clean and moving, and in return, the party won't kill them, but instead will let them onto shore sometime before they reach Kilead. The pirates agree. Andry and Vadania come back to the main deck, where Andry casts Lay on Hands on Kellan in order to keep her healthy enough to make it to shore.
The group decides they will take three hour shifts to steer and keep watch on the prisoners. The group makes it to an inlet a ways before Kilead to drop off the pirates, but it takes them the rest of the day, and into the night to get there. They still have another day's sailing, given the rough shape of the sloop after being in battle, in order to get into Kilead.
