Session 21: Politics in Molaesmyr Report

General Summary

The party woke up the next day after closing the portals refreshed and ready for the next step.   Brother Les had reached out to his god, Pelor, the day before, attempting to find out if anyone had come from Bysaes Tyl to assist in the city. He had used his sending spells previously to discuss this with his grandfather. Pelor shined a light through the tree canopy onto the area outside the northern gates of Molaesmyr.   Brother Les, worried about many potential political problems regarding the future of his ancestors former city as well as a certain bugbear he calls a friend, began a discussion with the party about these issues. He even casted the spell, Zone of Truth, in an effort to show he was serious about having all the truth be brought out. This included his background as a spy for the Dwendalion Empire. He brought up a number of other things, but mostly it focused on the subjects of determining if the party wanted any payments or rewards for ending the corruption of Molaesmyr from who might take it over next (assuming it was going to be Bysaes Tyl elves returning to reclaim it). And, how to get Pooka through the Dwendalion Empire without being murdered.   Atreena expressed much concern about the idea of the elves returning and potentially causing more problems (if they did it once, they can do it again). Eglantina was far more concerned with heading to the Menagerie Coast to potentially thwart Zehir, as guided by her patron Xalicas. Zanthros seemed aloof to most of it, his concern being knowledge and magic. And Pooka was greatly concerned, as his desires for money and business are of interest to him.   Eventually, they decided to head to the gate to meet the expedition from Bysaes Tyl.   On the way there, the ankheg brood queen beast that they had met before (who they rescued Groofrolim Steelshoulder from before) burst from the ground, right in the middle of the party, sending them flying about. Eglantina, Zanthros and Brother Les landed on their backs while Pooka and Atreena managed to stay on their feet. The brood queens broodlings swarmed out of the hole.   With the help of Zanthros's MULTI-PASS (which incinerated all the broodlings again), the party quickly wounded the monstrosity to force it to run back down it's hole. Atreena swiftly jumped into the hole, falling onto it's back and stabbing it. But then Zanthros came up to the hole, sending bolts of lightning into its back, and then Eglantina threw two eldritch blasts, knocking off its head.   The body started falling into the pit and Atreena jumped off its back onto the dirt wall before the body slammed into the ground below her. After Atreena climbed out, and everyone took an assessment of their condition, they continued on to the gate.   Outside the gate they met a group of elves, lead by a warrior woman who turned out to be the 2nd in command of the defense force of Bysaes Tyle, Commander Lyra Balven. And the captain of the Eryn'alqua, Captain Ellred Yllahana.   The party, once introduced, was welcomed by the expedition from Bysaes Tyl, and information was shared. The Bysaes Tyl party was going to leave soon, as they hadn't heard from him yet.   After getting acquainted, the party led the commander, the captain, and a couple others to meet the unicorn. They were in awe and this gave them proof that the city was healing and could be reclaimed (in no short thanks to the efforts of the party). After a few hours of the expedition party members enjoying the glade and communicating briefly with the unicorn, everyone returned back to the campsite outside.   It was determined that the ship would return back to Bysaes Tyl with details of the city and its condition on the following morning. Atreena, wanting the Nightback Clan to be represented when the city was reclaimed, decided that someone from her clan should go. And ultimately, they decided that Atreena will go as the person who should represent them. A sending was sent to her mother, Sparkle of Light, and she will attempt to meet them at the northern end of the bridge over the Boreal Omen river in roughly 4 days time. And the rest of the party will go with her, to avoid having to cross Shadycreek Run as they are wanted there.   That night, though, a woman, Jastira, approached Zanthros. She stated that she was hoping that while on this trip she could find her grandmothers house and find some writings of her grandfathers to return to her grandmother as it was believed he was lost in the evacuation of Molaesmyr. But tonight was the last opportunity and her commander prevented her from going before.   Zanthros, thinking that the girl was smitten with him, agreed to take her into the city (by himself) to find her house and get the writings. Atreena snuck off after the two in the darkness while the other three stayed at the camp and enjoyed some ale with the elves.   Zanthros and Jastira walked through the dark city, aided only by her eyes and his continually lit staff, until they came to where she believed the house to be. It was surrounded by massive vegetation, more than most places. And shining through the front double windows was a pulsing blue light.   Atreena made herself known to Zanthros and Jastira, just so they knew they weren't alone, and to help with getting in the house.   Atreena tried to shatter the front windows with a rock and then her arrows and successfully put a hole in one, but nothing happened. So, she went to the front door.   Suddenly the vines from ground came alive and whipped out, smacking both Atreena and Zanthros, grabbing onto Atreena with a tight grip as the vines wrapped around her.   Atreena threw a dagger and stabbed and stabbed, even as the plant showed its thorny maw that bit into her side. The vines relentlessly whipped themselves into Zanthros over and over again. Zanthros, in retaliation, lobbed fireball after fireball, the fires warping themselves around Atreena to not hurt her, until the carnivorous plant was nothing but ash. Jastira was terrified and excited at the same time, having never seen such a display of magic before.   The three went inside, Zanthros taking a little more caution than before.   The blue glowing pulse was a large blue ring like a portal floating in the middle of the living room. Zanthros was sure it was some conjuration magic, maybe a teleportation ring of some kind, but it was ultimately ignored.   Jastira went into a back bedroom and found the writings. Meanwhile, Zanthros found a beautiful staff standing in the corner with arcane writings. Jastira allowed him to keep it as a reward for helping her.   They made it back to the campsite outside and discovered it was a staff of defense; a very useful item for the wizard.   Everyone settled into to rest for the evening as in the morning, they start a journey to Bysaes Tyl. What awaits them on their journey and in the city of the elves of the Dwendalion Empire?
