Session 16: The Shadow of Molaesmyr

General Summary

Your party entered the gates of Molaesmyr to suddenly find yourselves in the Shadowfell, surrounded by a massive body of zombies. Fighting off the zombies swarming in, you found a nearby church with light inside. You made your way in with the help of a beckoning living elf at the door. Once inside, the undead left you alone and soon realize why as it was a temple to the Raven Queen (the goddess of death).   The elf, Evandil Lietarias, brought you inside and spoke of where you were. You were in the Shadowfell, the domain of the Raven Queen that mirrors the material plane, except without light, color and life.   He spoke of working with others on a means for the people of Molaesmyr to permanently travel between the material plane and feywild but then something happened and the city was corrupted in a violent wave of fey and shadow. He has no idea how it happened.   While trying to be a good host, he spoke of others that hid in the temple with him but were killed. The way he spoke though gave you vibes that maybe he was responsible for it. You even met another "survivor" named Sevandal who was actually a rotted skeleton in the corner of the library of the temple.   He got flustered enough that he ran away and hid in his room. During this time, Zanthros and Eglantina searched the library, Pooka whittled at some wood to make an idol for the Raven Queen with Brother Les's assistance, and Atreena did some investigating of another area of the temple that turned out to be a storage area.   In this storage area, she found old food stuffs, some coffins (probably holding bodies) and a bloody knife.   When the party went to confront Evandil, a loud knocking came at the door. Evandil rushed to open it and the party found out that he was supposed to make the party vulnerable to a wraith commander that wanted them for some reason. The party defended themselves and destroyed the undead commander and it's soldiers.   Once the party collected themselves, you decided you needed to leave the shadowfell before you felt you could not longer leave. You gathered your things, convinced Evandil to come with you and made your way to the gate covered in zombies.   Sneaking up, you got within 100 yards before the zombies noticed you and you rushed the gate. Brother Les charged forward with his holy might and attempted to use Pelor's light to turn away the dead. Pooka and his echo, Akoop, lashed out with the snake whip, ripping zombies apart. Zanthros threw balls and sprays of fire, incinerating the walking corpses. Eglantina sent shockwaves of thunder into groups of the undead, shattered their bodies. Atreena picked off those zombies that came a little too close to her party members. And Barm, the little goblin stuck with the party, stabbed wherever he could. Evandil stayed close to avoid being caught by the grabbing hands of the animated cadavers.   You rushed through the gate back to the light of the material plane; the serene warmer sun poking through the closed canopy of the Savalirwood. Barely making it through, the party took a deep breath then found a nearby building outside the city's walls to take a long deserved rest.

Discovered that the fall of Molaesmyr was somehow related to an attempt to open a portal to the feywild. Why and how that failed and caused this corruption of Molaesmyr is still a mystery.
