Session 22: Sailing away Report

General Summary

The night that Zanthros and Atreena went off with Jastira into Molaesmyr, Gnenjet showed up to the campsite of the Bysaes Tyl. While he gathered the attention of the elves, Eglantina, Pooka and Brother Les welcomed him in and started going through his items to purchase. Among some potions purchased, in exchange for gems, they also purchased a set of fancy gloves for Atreena. Pooka seriously eyed the Javelin of Lightning but they couldn't get the necessary funds to buy it.   Zanthros and Atreena came in eventually, Zanthros got healed up and the night went by with some revelry.   The next morning, the party left with Captain Elred Yllahana and about half of the expedition party to head to their ship and back to Bysaes Tyl. They reached the ship, Eryn'alqua, without issue. They get settled into the ship, given five of the cabins on the bottom deck for privacy, and the ship headed out.   About a day later, they reached the Boreal Omen bridge and went to the north section to meet Atreena's mother, Sparkle of Light, to speak with her briefly before heading off. Atreena is meant to represent the Nightback Clan in the future of the Savalirwood and Molaesmyr itself. After taking to the shore and checking the area to make sure it was clear, the party settled in for the night. The following day, during a nice drizzle of rain, Sparkle of Light and her guard appeared near the bridge. Atreena met with her and then the party and Sparkle's retinue came out of the trees. They settled in for the rest of the day and overnight, as a means to let Sparkle of Light and her daughter, Atreena, have one more night together before Atreena was leaving for a long time.   Evandil, the lost elf in the church in the Shadowfell, was also there and he expressed his thanks again for being rescued. He was offered to come with the party to go back to the elves in Bysaes Tyl but he chose to stay with the Nightback Clan as he has found a new purpose in life to repay what he could for the atrocities that the corruption had caused to the area.   After a good night of revelry, the Atreena and her mother said their goodbyes and the party boarded the Eryn'alqua to head out to sea and Bysaes Tyl.   As the boat left the Boreal Omen river to the sea itself, unbeknownst to the party, a large group of sahuagin were waiting for boats to leave the area and collected on the bottom of the boat. They waited until the middle of the night then they attacked.   Fortunately, Atreena was awake, as always. She was enjoying the night sea air when she heard a muffled cry from below on the next deck down. She ran down quickly and discovered a sahaugin standing over the body of one of the elf sailors. She yelled out an alarm, another sailor rang a bell, more sahaugin appeared on the gun deck, crawling in through the gun hatches, and Atreena rushed to defend the ship.   The rest of the party were in their quarters, sleeping or otherwise, and were abruptly awoke to the sound of alarm. They all rushed out, heading up the aft ladder to the gun deck. The fight was joined!   The party met the sahaugin without their armor, or even clothes in the case of Pooka. Nevertheless, while some more creatures were elsewhere on the ship, the majority were there on the gun deck and the party fought back.   The sahaugin were armed with harpoons and tridents, lots of them with chains that tried to pull their enemies closer. Some had 2 arms, some had 4. One was large and heavy and tried, sometimes successfully, to hold members of the party. She even tried to banish one of them, but was unsuccessful.   The ensuing battle was quick and vicious. The gunnery elf was cut down quick but Brother Les saved him. Other elves, including the captain, helped fight on the deck. Atreena darted around, using her agility to stab easily. Eglantina stuck to her eldritch blasts to avoid any close in fighting. Brother Les did his best to keep the elves healthy and dished out his own damage. Zanthros was partially crippled without being able to use his more destructive magic but he still shot magic missile after magic missile to devastating effect. And naked Pooka roared into a rage and flayed many sahuagin skin.   Of note, during the battle, when the large priestess sahuagin saw Pooka using the Lash of Shadows, she turned the attention of all of her minions onto him. They seems very interested in that whip. Zanthros, who weirdly had presence of mind to grab his hat of comprehend languages, understood that they were told to find the party and get that whip for their "master".   In the end, with all the sahuagin dead, and the loss of 2 of the elven sailors, the party helped clean up the ship. They tossed the sahaugin bodies overboard and gave the elf dead funeral rites.   The DM, though, forgot to mention a detail: on the body of the priestess, was a water proof scroll case. What lies inside?
