Session 6: First Step Report

General Summary

Olarune 22nd, 998

After arriving at Maford, a Tiefling bumps into Ringo, causing the party to halt. The Tiefling confronts Ringo, telling him to watch where he walks next time, and after convincing her to join them for a few drinks, which he agreed to pay for, they all make their way to the Bull & Page Tavern & Inn. After a round of drinks from a strange man who appears to have a fear of Cheese, Ringo is able to convince the Tiefling named Qrione to join them, as they were in need of a Rogue in their party. In the end, after eating their first real meal in months, the party turns in for the night to begin again the next morning.  

Olarune 23rd, 998

The party awakens the next morning and sets out to Caer Findore to report in.  

Therendor 1st, 998

Scouting Party 5 Arrives at Caer Findore and reports to the man in charge, who tells them that they will be going to Pikes Watch for some recon. After stepping through the portal, the party reports to the officer at Pikes Watch who sends them on their way to investigate some Dragons that were sighted nearby.  

Therendor 2nd, 998

The party makes camp in the mountains before investigating the spotted Dragons and takes a rest. Ringo is then woken up by talking somewhere nearby, so he goes to investigate, finding a group two Adult Red Dragons and one Ancient Red Dragon speaking to an unseen individual in a gulch at the bottom of a cliff near their camp. Unable to hear the conversation, Ringo goes back to camp to get Fireheart, Sparhawk, and Sylrieth to assist, letting them know that one of the Dragons is the dreaded Ashethax the Usurper. Unfortunately, as they make their way back to the cliff, Fireheart accidentally kicks a rock will plummets down into the gulch, making a lot of sound and attracting the attention of the Dragons. Prepared to fight, the Dragons turn their attention to the now horrified adventurers. Fortunately, Ashethax notices Sparhawk and, seeing him as kin, lets them leave. Afterwards, the party leaves for Pikes Watch to report back.  

Therendor 4th, 998

The party makes it back to Pikes Watch to report in, though they are unable to provide any unknown information as no information was received, though they did mention that the Dragons were conversing with some unknown person. The party is then notified that another group going by the name "Scouting Party 5" has arrived with Captain Krigal, which confuses the party. They are then arrested for impersonating Military personnel. After spending nearly an entire day in jail, the party sees a familiar knight and drunk approach the bars. Ingrannus notifies them that he has bailed them out as he was already aware of the possible misunderstanding and wanted to help them as they did with him.  

Therendor 8th, 998

Back at Maford, the party, now out of a job, discusses what to do next. First order of business was to change their party name, which they agree on Noble Team Fireheart and Sylrieth both agree that they should report back to Captain Krigal and notify him of what's happening, as Fireheart believes that this possible threat could make its way to Naalnore. The rest of the party elects to stay in Maford and drink at the Adventurers Guild. Soon after Fireheart and Sylrieth's departure, Qrione asks about rumors around town, to which she is told that there have been strange noises coming from the area near Cabinwood Range. Wanting to hear more about it, she asks the clerk about it who knows nothing more, though fortunately, an Adventurer heard the conversation and elaborated, as he had been in the area. He had seen a man going into a cave several times, but never saw him leave. Hearing this, the party of four sets off for the cave.  

Therendor 10th, 998

The party of four make it to the cave mentioned by the Adventurer and investigate. Shortly after, a man wearing strange steel armor approaches them, asking them what they're doing there. They tell him that they're looking for a man who keeps entering the cave but never leaves, to which he tells them that he is that man. He also tells them that they should leave as they have no further business there, then proceeds to enter the cave once more. After discussing it, the party decides to go into the cave after him, lighting torches to prepare for the dark. In doing so, Sandy was able to light her torch so effectively that Sylrieth was able to spot it for a brief moment. As they go through the cave, they see the corpses of many Goblins, Bugbears, and men wearing similar armor to the sam seen outside of the cave. After investigating, they find that these are the very corpses of the man they saw outside. After a brief discussion on what this man could be, the party hears clanging coming from further down the cave, so they go to investigate.  

Therendor 12th, 998

Fireheart and Sylrieth arrive back at Caer Findore and report to Captain Krigal, go greets them with suspicion. Fireheart apologizes on behalf of the rest of the party and assures him that they changed their party name. After convincing the Captain not to arrest them again, Fireheart informs him on what they saw in the mountains and asks him if there's anything she can do, as she is concerned about her people. He tells her that there is officially nothing they can do, but tells them that the Dragonwatch Knights are in need of some extra hands to investigate a concerning lack of Drakonic activity. She accepts, and the two leave for the strange light that Sylrieth saw two days prior.  

Therendor 13th, 998

Through sheer luck and the help of Demon, Fireheart and Sylrieth are able to find the rest of the party as they find the entrance to a dungeon. As they enter, they hear arguing further down into the dungeon. They all stealthily approach the voices to find that the man has a frightened, robed man in his grasp and is telling him to give him the informtaion he needs. The party attempts to calm the situation when the robed man summons three skeletons from their dreamless sleep to attack the party. After defeating the Skeletons, the party notices that both men have gone even further into the dungeon. After searching for them, they find the two men in a room, still arguing. The party convinces the armed man to allow them to force the robed man to drink their truth serum. The robed man reveals that the armed man is looking for a phylacrty, which Ringo reveals is a vessel used by Lich's. The necromancer was involved in the re-revival of the ancient lich, like the necromancers before him, and the armed man is looking for this Lich to destroy it. It is then revealed that the phylactry that the armed man is looking for is at the bottom of the Black Mountain Prison. Sparhawk, finding that the information that was given was sufficient enough, proceeds to headbutt the necromancer to death. The armed man thanks them for their help and departs after revealing that he is a revenant who was brought back until he completed his task, which was assumedly to destroy the Lich.  

Therendor 14th, 998

The party arrives in Maford once more, and attempts to turn in the quest they thought they had registered for, only to find out that the quest wansn't registered at all. After bickering among themselves, and even demanding a reward from the Mayor of Maford, they are reminded by Fireheart that she was able to receive a job offer from captain Krigal involving Dragonswatch Keep. After discussing their next plan, they begin their journey to Dragonswatch Keep.
