CD Issue 7: I'll drive your monkey for you
General Summary
The session opened with a quick segue to Aliena , who had found a quiet corner of the Aerie's Canopy Egg to escape the Canopy Cotillion ball. Really, she had heard her cousin Dorelan and wanted to avoid his stern gaze. She was approached by a smoking woman named 'Felicity' who wanted to chat. Aliena want to smoke, so she tried out Canopy Slims and tried to be cool. She failed. The woman starting grilling Aliena about Deya, and seemed to know way more than Aliena was comfortable with. Aliena tried to make an escape, calling for help via her coms, but her team could not pick up a signal. The woman persisted, grabbing Aliena when she tried to escape, asking about the history for Deya. She implied that the Lightbenders had driven out something when they wrapped eternal sunlight around their tidally locked home world. At this point there was a cacophony inside the Egg, and when Aliena turned the woman was gone. Knightfall had assaulted the Ball, crashing into the Egg with a grand entrance and a speech. "You were told never to return here, Convenant butchers. The hubris you showed cost Terminal City everything, and I am here to render judgement on you for the quarter million innocents who lost their lives in your petty war. Everyone here is complicit in this crime, prepare for the people's retribution" Knightfall then released a barrage of missiles at the stage which threw out a pink field over all. He proclaimed it a covenant technology called a "Ikaris Field" which Siren recognized as it was the name of her mother, Rhiannon Ikarys. The field drained the energy on all those trapped, flooring them and removing their powers. Riche knew things were going to get ugly, and escorted his dance partner Jenny St George to safety, revealing his identity as he suited up. The team sprang into action, Paladin revealed his plan for the team to seize this chance to kidnap Blast Furnace and attempt to revive Fireheart from his ghastly prison. Nobody seemed really on board with this plan. He jumped down to engage his doppleganger Knightfall directly. Malware managed the crowd, using their technological wizardry to manage the chaos in a more orderly and safe fashion. Siren flared up with burning power, summoning a hawk headed monkey named 'Valarkhen'. Aliena cried out a Deyan warcry, which sounded like a 'Cosmic Turkey'. She gathered the scattered glass shards into a shining ball of superheated matter, hurling it at Knightfall's head. It struck him, allowing Paladin to grapple with his opponent. But the blow caused a pair of Knightfalls constructs to appear, one of them rushing Aliena attacking her with a shadowy warhammer. She attempted to elude the foe, manifesting solar roller skates, but it didn't turn out as planned and she landed on her alien butt. Knightfall was prepared in the melee, and surprised Paladin by reaching through both their armors and grabbing Riche by the throat. Knightfall proclaimed that the had fought this battle before, revealing that he remembered Richie's days in this future present. Siren followed Paladin's lead finally, sending Valarkhen to pull Blast Furnace from the field. Unfortunately, this caught the attention of Knightfall and a fiery blast disintegrated the beast, and his captive fell to the floor. With the crowd safely evacuated by Malware, the team turned their guns on Knightfall. Aliena trapped him in burning plasma and Paladin blasted him out into the night sky. Richie seemed sure they had won, but Knightfall played his final hand. Showing that he knew exactly where the fleeing socialites would be, he detonated controlled explosives on the canopy, causing it to crumble under their feet. The Dissidents allowed their foe to flee as they turned to rescue the doomed civilians. Malware kept them calm and orderly, diverting the majority away from the edges of the explosive to safety. Aliena turned into a giant dinosaur and with Paladin held the plates in place, preventing the damage from spreading. Siren summoned her powerful magic, welding the pieces back into place. The team flew into the night sky as the chaos subsided. As they started to celebrate their victory, Richie spat venom at his teammates for having cost him his once chance at rescuing his old friend.
