Session 70: Janey’s very scrambled report of the Vault battle

General Summary

Oh my gosh, so we found the phylactery vault! I’m sorry if this journal is a bit scrambled, but it was very hectic!   After resting up a bit and preparing for this great confrontation, we went to the newly opened vault. And it was… weird.   It seemed like we were inside some sort of pyramid, but gravity was very strange. On each side of the pyramid was another, smaller pyramid with a door in it and two gargoyles guarding it. We got inside one of them and found some phylacteries inside. We destroyed quite a few and I kept one deactivated one. For science!   Well, this of course woke up the gargoyles. And the floating skull - I think that’s called a demi-lich? Needless to say, the fight was on.   The demilich had some crazy powerful spells but we managed to dodge most of the damage, partly thanks to Valstrax’s weird holy aura. Still need to research that. More annoying were the gargoyles who just kept coming! Every time we beat one down, another one would take its place; this went on for quite a while until all the gargoyles in the room were taken care of.   After the battle was done, we did what we came there to do: destroying the phylacteries, as many as we could. But as the last ones were shattered, a low rumbling announced the imminent cave-in of the entire space as the magic was no longer supporting it! We grabbed anything valuable we could as soon as we could, and got out of the vault into the rooms above. In running to a portal, we hurried past Christopher and told him to come along, phylacteries have been dealt with, come with us if you don’t want to get crushed. Luckily, he listened.   And we did manage to get out on time, with one heck of a story to tell, and yet another powerful wizard added to our caravan. Oh, I look forward to discussing necromantic magic with Christopher more in-depth, it’s not a subject I learned a lot about at the academy!
