Session 51: Collapsing ceilings and golem diagrams

General Summary

Well, this was interesting again. Lots of strange and annoying rooms again, though this time they yielded something extraordinary. Let me start at the beginning.   We had a little rest outside again, and after a good night of sleep, we went back inside. Valstrax and I had to remove some curses we had acquired last time in a room full of devil head doorways. It took us a bit of effort, but not enough to not go in again. Besides, we were so close to the iron golem laboratories.   We decided to take a slight detour to try and avoid the annoying room that trapped us inside of it. No, not the one with the devil head doorways the other one. Yes, that’s right, there are two. But, by Moradin, I hope there’s only two.   We ended up in a room with an angelic statue in the middle of it. Around the statue were several pillars held up by gargoyles. When we entered the room, the gargoyles came to life and caused part of the room to cave in. There were quite a few of them, but they stood no chance against us. They did wake up the angel in the statue, though. Yes, this also wasn’t an actual statue. It communicated with some of the others, asking where her captors were. Valstrax sent her after the one gargoyle that fled, and we headed for the next room.   We found another big door leading to the next room. Janey knocked but no response. When we opened the door, we saw that the room was a quarry where two giants were digging. They just continued working, not paying attention to us. We decided to leave them alone and continued.   The next room that we got to was one that we had been in before. It was the one where we conjured up a lot of help. But, annoyingly, this was also one of the rooms where we got stuck inside of… We tried to deactivate whatever magic was keeping us in the room but to no avail. We did get some lovely colourful orbs from it, though. In the end, we got out of this similarly to how we got out last time. Again, most of us got into the hole, and this time skrik moved underneath the magical trap by putting the hole on both sides of it.   Finally, we had gotten to the iron golem foundry. I couldn’t wait to get in. As with all the other foundries, there were more Thayan apprentices. A more interesting individual was the giant fiery man helping them make several iron armaments. I had hoped these were friendly, but we ended up fighting them too. The fiery man threw quite a bit of fiery magic at us. Luckily, most of us are pretty resistant to that. When he was on his last legs, he fled into a cave filled with ash. A moment later, it filled with flames. That didn’t stop our ranged attacks from reaching him though.   I was looking around the room when I was called over to the side room by Janey. They had found another fiery man. This one was chained there by smoke. I tried to dispel it, but the spell chaining him here was more potent than I expected, though, after several tries, we did free him. We wanted to go home, though we weren’t attuned by the black gate yet. Janey told me that he wanted to return to the elemental plane, so I decided to use another spell to send him there. That reminds me, we should check whether that spirit naga is back.   We could finally get back to searching the foundry, and it was definitely worth it. We found some parchment with an iron golem drawn on it. That parchment also contained a lot of scribbles on it. I suspect this might be a diagram on how to create golems! It seems like there are treasures to be found in this hellhole after all. We’re currently attuning the keystones to this area. Let’s see what the next rooms bring.
