Session 42: Entering the Doomvault
General Summary
After waking up early and having some breakfast, and Janey and Skrik being their usual selves, we go ahead and get closer to this half-buried building that’s near where the weapons factory supposedly is. Time to find a way in. Looks a bit small for a factory, though. Inside, there’s a circle on the floor, and Janey says it’s magical. If she says that it is, I have no reason to doubt her. She knows this magic stuff. Apparently, it can send people to another magical circle that’s somewhere else. That could be pretty useful. When we get to wherever it is that circle takes you, we’re greeted by a woman named Syranna, who says she’s a Red Wizard from Thay. She also says something about a Doomvault with phylacteries, a lich lord, and the stopping of that lich lord. Janey says liches are very powerful, but if we break their phylactery, they’ll just up and die. Sounds way too easy. Then we learn that these things are in the Phylactery Vault, and Syranna doesn’t even really know where the thing is, or how to get into it. There we go. Lot more difficult, just as expected. Syranna also tells us what she knows about the Doomvault. White gates go between zones, and black gates are entry points. But we need something called Glyph Keys to activate those gates. At least Syranna can fiddle with the Glyph Keys we find using something called “Contact Stones” to help us get around the vault. After trying to head to the Forests of Slaughter (love the name, totally not ominous at all.), but realizing we don’t have the Glyph Key for that, we’re given the Glyph Key for the “Abyssal Prison”. Well, crap. That sounds unpleasant. Anyway, nowhere else to go, and we already accepted the quest to try and stop that lich lord guy and his army. So, to this Prison we go. At least it sets the tone by us arriving in a room, being asked if we’re prisoners, and getting attacked for saying ‘no’. At least everybody died real quickly. Janey took out everything except the lady and 1 of the zombies with a fireball, and those 2 went down real quick after that. Good thing too, because there’s sounds of combat in the next room over. It has a pit with a buncha common folk fighting against a Fiend, while an Undead jackhole stands at the edge, watching with a sick glee. And he gets upset when we interfere to make the fight more fair! As in, he comes over and bites me because he’s such a dillhole! Of course, I grab him good and we go to town on him. In the end, he desperately tries to escape before turning to dust in the moonbeam Voron used to fight the fiend and the vampire. Good to know they get real worried about that spell. I’m sure that’ll be good to know in the future. After that, we bring all the people back to the Gatehouse for safety, though Shalendra the “Gold Elf Knight” wants to fight the Lich King. Skrik worries for her safety, but she says she didn’t mean physically fighting him, but making sure his forces are crippled. I’m okay with that. Any help that means we gotta fight less things wanting to kill us sounds like a good idea, really. I can only protect my friends from so many things at once, after all.
