Session 47: Further progress through the pools
General Summary
Well, we go on... This doomvault sure deserves its name, every room is filled with creatures which are either hostile or tough to negotiate. And the map shows many rooms, while we covered only a few. According to the map, this next set of rooms is called the spawn pools and they are just as watery as the last ones... As we go through the white gate and enter the first room of the spawn pools, we see five Kua Toa. We could try to talk to them with some magic, but as that was pointless the last time, we decide to just walk calmly through them, as they don't attack straight away. However, they don't agree and attack us. This is not a smart move, as they are no match for us, even with two extra Kua Toa which appear from the water. As we loot their stuff, we also have some to the admire the walls, which show humanoids performing intimate acts. The Tiefling appears to be quite aroused by this. In the next room we encounter some undead, but the dread warrior, four zombies and two wights are no match for us either. Afterwards we can admire the walls here as well, which show demons performing intimate acts this time. The Tiefling is aroused again. The water appears to be special as well, it appears to improve ones potency. We decide to take a sample for later study, which I will keep with me. The Naga tries to sneak a sample into his own bags for his own use, but everyone sees that. The Rat then demonstrates how it is done by adding another sample to the bags of the Naga, without him noticing. He will find it the next time he goes through his bags. A contact stone in this room allows us to attune our Glyph keys to the Spawn pools. The next room is quite a lot larger than the last two and has two large pools, with a few smaller ones to the side. The room appears to be empty at first, but when the Dwarf and the Naga take a look into the pools, they disturb the creatures inside and a Sea Hag, two Merrows and six Giant crabs appear. The Merrows refuse the bones we offer them and all of them attack. This is a foolish move as the two Merrows and one of the crabs are killed very quickly. Scared the Sea Hag into surrendering. She speaks some broken Common and the Rat offers her a place in our caravan, like he does to everyone, but she refuses as she likes this place somehow better. Her loss, I like the fresh air above the ground way better. She however would like some extra control of this part of the vault and tells us that she wants the Spirit Naga gone. When we tell her that we have already beaten it, she tells it will be back if we don't banish it properly. Realising that the commoners we left in the pools there won't be safe when it returns, we decide to do her the favor and return. I would like a good rest anyway, as all this battle puts quite a strain on my magic abilities and this rest needs to be taken outside the vault, as we do not want a repeat of our last, much disturbed, rest. As we return, we encounter seven new Kua Toa in the same room as before, but this time they stand down, apparently the Sea Hag has them well under control. We collect some bones to offer to the Merrows in the Warrior pools and pass them without a problem. When we enter the room where we found the Spirit Naga the first time, we see that the commoners are still in a trance in the pools, but the Naga has not yet reappeared. We decide to evacuate the charmed commoners and take them to our caravan, so we can take a long rest there. After some struggle we succeed and as we arrive at the caravan we find not only both Kua Toa we sent there, but also the noble woman we freed from the first part of the dungeon we explored. Somehow she went here instead of to her own plane. Apparently she already found a place within the caravan and we decide to accept her for now. Before we take our long rest, we hand over most of our loot to the caravan, so they can sell it off and buy provisions for themselves in a nearby town.
