Session 48: Great balls of fire

General Summary

We had a nice rest at the caravan for a change. I like being underground, but this doomvault is just way too stressful. Anyway, after we helped the caravan pack up and saw them on their way to a nearby town, we went back inside.   The first thing was to check whether the Spirit Naga was back. He wasn't, but some more Thayan warriors and some new blue undead were in the room instead. The blue guy offered to escort us to a black gate, but we politely refused and went on our way. They had other ideas and tried to stop us, but Janey threw a fireball at the blue guy, which got most of them fleeing. Only three warriors stayed to fight us. I noticed they were charmed by some sort of magic. Voron was able to dispel the magic on one of them. The warrior wasn’t too happy being in control again. He had undergone the domination willingly to serve the master better. He does tell us that this doomvault was once a prison, interesting. The warrior was still very fanatical, so Valstrax squeezed him to death.   Since the spirit naga wasn’t back, we decided to explore the golem laboratories for now. When we went through the white gate, the people that fled earlier were standing ready for us with reinforcements. Voron summoned a moonbeam in the opening to block the enemies from getting to us. Many enemies in a small room, Janey took care of most of them with just one fireball. The stragglers were easy enough to take out.   Janey and Skrik checked out the cages in the room. The cages seemed to have runes on them, but we didn’t find out what the cages were for. A large rectangular boulder was holding the door slightly ajar and was blocking vision into the next room. The door was tough to open. Even Valstrax failed. Surprisingly, Skrik was able to push the door open a little, and Janney sent Mihri through the small opening before the door closed again. Having looked through Mihri's eyes, Janey told us there were some more undead creatures on the other side. Valstrax and I pushed the boulder away from the door, but this caused the door to slam shut completely. Janey tried thaumaturgy, but it didn’t work. When Voron detected some magic on the door, I tried to dispel it. Opening the door was a little easier but still pretty tricky. Janey decided to knock on the door, and surprisingly a man on the other side answered. He told us that these are his undead and that we didn’t need to worry about them. He also said that we just had to push to open the door. Valstrax tried again and finally succeeded. Voron and I were the first through the door, and of course, there are more pit traps. We had seen enough of these traps by now to jump out of the way in time.   Now that we were through the annoying door, we met the man who talked to us. His name was Christopher Wellington, a necromancer. We had a friendly conversation with him, though his two apprentices didn’t approve. He was the one making flesh golems in this place. He agreed to join our caravan if we could take care of the big guys here. This caused his apprentices to attack him. They didn’t stand a chance against him or us. Since this seemed like a pretty safe area, we decided to take a short rest before checking out these flesh golems he created.
