Session 72: TG: Going the distance

General Summary

Today was pretty different from the others. I woke up early in the morning to a vision. It showed me how I could prove myself to Moradin, how I could forge the artefact foretold. I started packing immediately and when I was done I was surprised it was already breakfast time. I explained what had happened to the others and was glad to hear they wanted to join me on this vision quest.   After making sure the caravan was going to be ok for a while Voron used his magic to turn us into clouds and we flew at great speed towards Youghal in Scotire. Once we got over Scotire it was quite nice to see the rolling hills and sparse vegetation of the island again, soon after we saw the village down below. Youghal’s aboveground section was pretty small though heavily fortified with giant walls. There was also a harbour next to the town where we decided to land.   Once we had turned back into our normal selves we were surprised to see the area outside of the walls deserted. When we got up to the gate we yelled up to the guards on the walls. They said they were having some problems and that those problems were the reason the gates were closed. We asked whether we could get in, they said we wouldn’t be let outside again if we entered. We asked whether we could talk to the captain and one went to get him.   After a short while a dwarf jumped off of the wall towards us and tried to tackle me. Turns out my old adventuring buddy Veit was the guard captain in Youghal. It was good to see him again, if a bit surprising. He still had the same aversion to illusion magic which is shared in a milder case. He told us the town had been having giant problems as of late. They kept coming down from the mountains to steal things. This is why they decided to close the gates. I wanted to go to the temple inside of town. Veit was ok with letting us in, but also mentioned that we weren’t getting out the same way. We told him we had other ways to get out.   In town we first went to the temple where I talked to a cleric of moradin. He did some kind of ritual on me in private similar to Legend lore. He didn’t share the details with me though he did call me a possible “returner of glory”, I wonder what that entails.   After the ritual it was pretty obvious what I had to do, fix their giant problem. The group agreed with this plan, though getting paid for it would make it all the better. While I went to Veit to negotiate a deal the others went to look for an inn to spend the night. After getting some drinks with Veit he agreed to pay us 5k gold if we bring back proof that we dealt with the giants. After that I joined the others at the inn for some more drinks, though Aaldryn had enough in him already when I got there.   Tomorrow we’ll set out to the fortress of the giants. I hope I’ll be able to become this “returner of glory”.
