Session 73: Solving a giant problem

General Summary

As we woke up, we prepared to leave the city. However, we were challenged into leaving the city without using the gates. Easy. I turned myself into a giant Eagle and carried everyone over the wall and out of the city. After that, we went on our way towards the volcano where the giants supposedly resided.   We decided to take the longer safer route through the valleys instead of going straight over the mountains and took almost all day to reach the volcano. While the others discussed various topics during the walk, I stayed in eagle-form on the lookout for any dangers, but there were none. When we got close to the volcano, it got unnaturally hot, all nature was burned away and geysers burst out everywhere. However, we reached the entrance of the cave system safely, albeit slightly exhausted.   The tiefling tried to get some information about our surroundings by sending an elemental to scout, but after it came back with some vague story about a big creature, it disappeared after being sent down again, supposedly killed. As it was the end of the day, we decided to set up camp and go in the next morning.   The next morning we went into the cave and after a while we encountered what seemed like two giant spiked doors. As we tried to open them, calling out for a guard behind them, a Fire giant lifted them up and bashed them into us! With that, we had no other choice than to kill him.   After that, we went on into the cave system and a split and a decent walk further we found ourselves next to a room where we heard very loud snoring. Assuming these would be more fire giants, we decided not to risk any other guards and went through the wall using some magic and attacked them straight away. As the first one didn’t want to talk, why would those? There were four giants. The first didn’t get the chance to wake up properly, the rest went down quickly as well.   Afterwards, the tiefling felt bad about the preemptive killing and had a lengthy discussion with the half-elf. She might have had a point, but it was done and we went on to loot their riches, which were plenty. Hopefully, now they have enough money for the expensive ink and other stuff to fill their spell books!   In the next hallway we found a statue of the deity worshiped by the dwarf, apparently made by the giants. However, we also found some amulets where the likeness of the deity was scratched out, as if they stopped worshiping him.   We also found a room with more giants, but after some careful scouting by the tieflings weasel, it turned out these were some children with their teacher and in stead of attacking, we barred them inside the room.   After that, we went back and to the other side of the split. After another long walk we reached a room with lots of lava and some creature inside of it. Behind it, we heard the sound of a giant smith working. We tried to get by carefully, but the creature detected us and a large dragon came out of the lava. Luckily, it wanted to talk and after providing it with a snack consisting of some previously slain enemies, it let us through.   As we arrived in the next room, we found an even larger giant, working a giant anvil. We managed to talk with him, but it quickly turned out that he had denounced the deity of the dwarf in favor of the dragon in the previous room. As he couldn’t be reasoned with, the half-elf cast a spell, locking him inside his own mind...
