Session 36: Excitement over Arzhurs tomb

General Summary

From the journal of Janey Kyrakir
Oh. My gosh. This has been... oh my gosh! I still can barely believe it! We actually found Arzhur’s tomb! I think. Probably.   The day already started amazing, with some of our party pulling an all-nighter to examine and dissect the dragon we downed the previous night. It was very educational and I think we can probably fetch a nice price for some of the stuff we collected from it. I got some dragon scales for myself, although I don’t quite know what to do with them yet. Anyway, they look cool!   After a break for breakfast, we set out on the road again, fully intending to just travel straight to Lundyn.   Well... it turned out a bit differently. As we were travelling on the road, we saw something strange in the distance. It looked like ruins, but a weird fog was obscuring our sight. Naturally, I wanted to go check it out. Carefully, of course.   Upon closer inspection, it seemed like these were no ordinary ruins. They were, at the very least, pre-fall. This was enough to get the attention of my fellow travellers as well, especially Valstrax, who still wants answers about his amulet (as do I). We all spread around the ruins to investigate, except for Skrik, who stayed in the shadows, keeping watch for anything that might threaten us.   The ruins had writing in a language I have rarely seen before. But luckily, I have a spell for that. Most of the writing was too weathered to make out, but near a well-like structure in the middle there was an inscription:
“The one who betrayed his god for his people lies here. His prison and treasure will be hidden for the ages. Arzhur may never rest or his people will suffer.”   What a find! A clue to a historical mention of the legendary king Arzhur! Well, we had to open that well now, naturally. We couldn’t just leave it like this! I – We had to know more! The wards were dispelled and the lid opened, and a dark figure found within. He asked who we were to dare disturb him (weirdly enough in abyssal, but I still had my translation spell going, so not a problem). We tried talking to it, but... it didn’t really want to talk.   His first attack was nasty. A big ball of necromantic energy knocked the life out of most of us. Well, I got out of dodge after that. Valstrax and Duldar got up close and managed to get some good hits in, and Voron was casting spells like a pro, using his power to summon lightning from the sky again, to great effect. I managed to enlarge Valstrax, but it seemed to impede him rather than help. I really got to work on that spell. I did manage to counter one of the spells from the creature, as well. Skrik was, as always, an excellent shot with his crossbow, managing to find all the weak spots in this creature’s defences.   It did get scary for a bit, with Valstrax losing consciousness, but eventually, Skrik managed to finish the dark figure off with one last amazing final blow, laying his remains to rest once again.
Valstrax was quickly healed and the well examined.   We found a lot of gold, which is always nice, but the objects we found were even better: we found a hat of disguise, a really cool sword, and magical paints which I cannot wait to use! I made sketches of everything and documented everything as detailed as possible, so I can report this to the historical and archaeological societies in Lundyn. They will be so happy, and if I’m lucky, our group will be credited as the ones who found this lost tomb again, cementing our names into history forever!   ... I might want to get used to Janey being my official name, then.
