The world as everyone knew it unraveled at the seams. A centuries-kept bridge and stabilization to a parallel plane of existence called the Dreamscape was broken. The Echoes, mysterious dark entities that existed for every one person, slowly began to return with the goal of reuniting with their other halves. Certain rotten individuals, keen on taking advantage of all the chaos, began to spread an otherworldly and toxic substance known as Shimmer to force people to face their demons or die trying.
Some people tried to maintain a sense of normalcy. But when the sky was split in two, painting it a beautiful swirl of colors and universes, everyone knew there would be no coming back from that point. The Dream had merged into the waking reality, creating a mish-mash of existence.
The Echoes had returned, and there was nothing anybody could do to stop it.
That was all eighteen years ago. The next generation has grown up in a much different world than their predecessors. The world is alive with magic and futurism. Human and Echo live alongside each other in relative harmony.
Entropy, the progenitor of all Echoes, walks amongst men. But even as relative peace reigns, there are whispers in the wind. Whispers of the inevitable return of the Benefactor; the mysterious progenitor of humankind that seems to have so solemnly abandoned its children.
The new generation, armed with powers that their ancestors could have only dreamed of, find themselves needing to finish what their predecessors started almost two decades ago. But when the hard questions are asked, the answers received in return aren’t always what people want to hear. It begs the final, terrifying question that everybody harbors deep within them:
What if our creator abandoned us for a reason?
