Session 62: Dat Bomb Octopussy
General Summary
- Dreadwick and the party set sail on the Starchaser to pursue Odila. By the best guess it will take them all day to catch up to the Koga ship, but only if they can use the secretive orcish technology to do so. Which means they need to deal with the Iron Empire ship tailing them.
- Kayl comes up with a plan to use Alter Self to gain waterbreathing and affix their hull with an Explosive Glyph. After some fine-tuning, Soma-Rai morphs into an Octopus (much to Bengt's horror as he looks onward at the grotesque change) and the cleric jump overboard to sneak onto the Iron Empire Galleon.
- They get onto the hull and Kayl plants the explosive rune despite the exhaustion process, and they swim away just in time to see the explosion destroy the Galleon's rudder. Though Kayl notices some kind of arcane magic ripple through the metallic hull as the explosion send the boat into a slow list.
- Focusing on catching Odila, Bengt Sunwalker assists one of the Orc engineers in firing up the device to speed up the Starchaser, and recognizes the power source of their magical engine: the same Soul Crystals that powered the Draconic Dreadnought with the energy siphoned from the souls of living people.
- Meanwhile, Odila Vallos enacts her part of the plan and begins taking out some of the Koga agents to give her space to set the slave ship aflame. As the ship catches and she helps incite panic, the Starchaser swings into view as flames send the skiff to the ocean's depths. Odila sneaks back aboard the Starchaser and sequesters herself into Kayl's rooms for the remainder of the trip to Seaspray Island lest the Koga Agents realize that she is alive.
However, a few days later in Freeport, Shi Ryu is interrogating the surviving Koga agents, extracting their stories from them and she can't help but wonder, why Odila's friends (who she now knows by reputation) just so happened to be right there to rescue the sinking skiff.
