Session 45: Through The Hatch

General Summary

  • The party descends through the hatch, closing the lid behind them. Odila Vallos begins inspecting the door while Frederick realizes some of his magical items have stopped working. He spends a good while going through all the gear on his person as well as the others to find that only his artifacts are ceasing. Irritated, he tries to figure out what's happening, but must put it aside as everyone begins to feel light-headed. Odila quickly opens the door and the subsequent door to a blast of equalizing pressure into an unknown room.
  • Kayl spots a purple glowing light ahead while everyone else pries open another door to discover a hallway with some of the floor planking pulled up, revealing a small but traversable maintenance tunnel.
  • The party dives into the tunnel while Kayl awaits their investigation, and they find numerous criss-crossing tunnels in the darkness, including one passage that leads to the purple glowing.
  • They breach the room from multiple sides and engage what appears to be a fungal outbreak, a large dumpster on one end of the room having sprouted three sporing flowers that emit in waves and take control of creatures like a cordycep.
  • Through quick thinking and application of wind gust and fire magic, the party dispatches the threat and investigates the room, finding a Slumbering Dragon Morningstar and an odd contraption with manageable controls.
  • Frederick pilots the contraption and gets it moving around the room, he uses the mechanism to manipulate a large container near what appears to be an incincerator, only to accidentally puncture it and release the compressed fuel inside, causing the room to explode.
  • Signed and bruised, the party makes their way through another door into a room that appears to be some kind of morgue. Kayl and Soma-Rai investigate to find all sorts of bodies, naturally mummified with the dry sealed air and so ancient they crumble at the lightest touch. Orc, Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, but most especially Dragonborn skeletons are in numerous quantities—it appearing that they were autopsied and drained of fluids before being somewhat dismembered for unknown reasons.
  • While the party looks for clues, Captain Frederick gets the machine working again and drives it through the room and into the next area, stumbling across another swarm of widget constructs. He runs one over and finished it with a spell, only for many more to crawl out of the nearby hallways and tunnels!
