Suddenly swarmed by a mass of Skitterwidgets, the party takes defensive positions as more and more of the mechanical crawlers climb out of vents and appear from the side halls. Only through some deft application of Frederick's forklift to their face is the party able to crush the numerous critters.
Upon exploring the room and finding some records that indicate a regular operation of processing bodies do they begin to speculate at the true purpose of the mortuary, skeletal remains, and incinerator room: corpse recycling.
Odila Vallos pushes ahead into the darkened maintenance hatches to try and scout and finds a hidden room with a small campfire burning within. After alerting the party and everyone sets up in careful ambush (just in case) Odila and Kayl sneak forward past some rudimentary traps and find a small, thick-necked blue creature cooking. They attempt to interact with him only to discover its an illusion and the true Xvart is hiding, hoping they won't hurt him!
After the Xvart introduces himself as Jeskel and trades with the party they realize he is a scavenger, and a lowly one at that. He tells them about the "glowy room" and the "long room" leading to the "scary room" up ahead, but it is clear that Jeskel's worldview is very small, and he can't even fathom anything greater than 10 floors away from his current position.
He gives Captain Frederick a bit of a lesson in haggling, but eventually gives up a glowing icosahedron artifact in exchange for some of needed survival gear, ropes and essentials and the like.
