BT - Session 3: An Odd Couple
General Summary
In the morning, as Miko nursed his first hangover, the group returned to the wolves to deliver the contract they'd negotiated with the Welton council. The wolves were hesitant to trust the arrangement. However, the party assured them that the contract only remained binding as long as the citizens of Welton upheld their end of the bargain. Should all go well, both groups would review and revisit in the future.
With business concluded, the party made their way back to
Corsegardin Hollow. On the road they ran into Poe Goodfellow, who seemed to have been temporarily removed from the plane by whatever patron gifted his powers. He joined the group as they heded into the city, though confessed that he did not actually havea place to stay yet. Valathar offeed to introduce him to his old landlady,
Mildred Myrie, a widowed gnomish woman with three cats.
As everyone settled back into the city, Pamaris and Miko decided to visit the
Moon & Lyre to check out Val’s show. Poe found himself inexplicably drawn to the taven as well. Inside, patrons were buzzing about rumors of the grisly death of the young lordling, Peter Applegate, at the hands of his new wife. In the midst of his opening piece, Val spotted
Stenn Durmash, High Protector of the Platinum Chambers, approach Miko. Assuming the lad was in trouble, he put
Moreth, a goblin with a middling standup comedy routine, back on the stage and went to bail out Miko.
Everyone was surpried to discover that, contrary to being in trouble, Miko was being recruited. Ppplegate’s wife, Evelyn, and an unidentified man, had both been found dead in their shared cell. There was little in the way of leads, but it seemed clear that the deed not done by humanoid hands. He entreated Miko to lend his expertise as a monster hunter to the case.
Miko readily agreed. The rest of the group accompanied him to the Platinum Chambers to investigate the cell. The paladins explained there were no witnesses to the murder. When questioned, other prioners said that they heard little from the pair, outisde the sound of a woman’s scream and a squelch. The cell itself held a curious sight: a woman’s dessicated corpse alongside a mad who seemed to have drowned. Further investigation revealed a strange sigil drawn in blood on the floor of the cell. The dead man bore a peculiar tattoo, the sigil of the Black Hunter, a local tale used to scare children.
The paladins said the man had cut out the tongue out of a local blacksmith, but had not resisted arrest. It was an altogether strange affair. However, before the investigation acould get much further, Val was summoned back to the
Moon & Lyre to fulfill his bardic obligations.
