Exiting the Catacombs Report
General Summary
Kiril stopped back at the Forbidden Library on the way out of the catacombs. He learned a new spell from one of the librarians. Calvin spent more time looking through the books he found in his family’s catacombs. He determined that the trade route grant is authentic. Looking through his family’s old ledgers, he found entries for a lot of weapons and mining equipment coming from an unnamed source in Aendrim and being transported to Gerra’s in Ironheim, which Calvin knows to be a popular brothel. They grabbed the war hammer from the crypt upstairs and put it in their bag of holding on the way out of the catacombs. Kiril detects that it is magical in some way. Kiril finds a magical silver javelin in the Crypt of House Valetta. He puts it in the bag. He also finds a white amulet with the letter v carved on it that is also identified as magical. Calvin puts it in his pockets They hear shouting when they exit the catacombs, coming from the main area of the library. Kiril frantically tries to find an alternate exit and accidentally locks himself in a closet. Drakar breaks him out of the closet. They find the librarian and one of her staff in a confrontation with six humans who are demanding access to the catacombs. Kiril and Calvin sneak through the book shelves to get closer. Drakar strides out to a face the situation head-on. Drakar notices that two of the six humans have tattoos matching the cult’s symbol on the backs of their hands. The party attacks and defeats the cultists with the help of the master of tomes and her head reader. They tell Skoda & Marcella that they found a dead cultist in the catacombs. Skoda says that he can have a scribe contact everyone who has gone into the catacombs in the past few months to find out if anyone is missing. Kiril tells Marcella and Skoda how to reach them at Master Trystan’s if they learn anything else. They ask the library patrons who one of the citizen/cultists is, and she tells him that the man is a shop owner in a poor district near the docks. She tells them how to find the shop, and that her family has bought goods from him over the years without any sign that he was a bad person. The party decides to leave the library. They want to go see a magister about the bodies they found, then check out the shop that the cultist/citizen owns, then get back to Trystan’s as soon as possible to debrief and see what Trystan knows about Calvin’s family history. They end up deciding to head to Trystan’s for the night, which will allow for a long rest and downtime conversation between Trystan and Calvin.
