Session 68: Rude with Panache

General Summary

14- 15th Thunsheer 836PD   14th Thunsheer   With Bilbe’s revelation that Raphael looks like Karkematth, he initimdates her to tell him more. There isn’t much else to share, other than that Kakathmett was a powerful mage, known to live beyond his years and was in possession of Frostweaver. She had last seen him about 2 or 3 years ago. Not too long before ‘Raphael’ had first woken up in the cold of the Frostweald. He storms off and Sabali tries to go after him and calm him down.   The rest of the Unbroken talk through the brief of the task to retrieve the residuum crystal and the Diver’s Grave. The ship carrying the crystal was brought as part of a deal the Plank King arranged, but planned to double cross and steal the crystal without paying. But it was caught in the storms of the Grave and sunk. Zeni remembers an old sailor’s song of the grave, and a creature that haunts that area, Dashilla.   The group realise that none of them know how to cast water breathing, Bilbe makes an extortionate offer of 500 gold to write a spell scroll. Tarathiel is outraged at the attempt to monopolise and extort the group, Bilbe has made a very powerful enemy today!   Raphael back at the pub, drowns his sorrows and the group join him in his drinking, trying to come up with alternatives to not buying the scroll, such as polymorphing Sabali into a sperm whale and the rest get swallowed up and transported, but the more they drink the more obvious they have to take the offer.   Raph nearly summons Mab in his sozzled state, realising she lied to him about who he was. Retiring to the night, in his sleep he gets a visit from Mab’s mother, the Raven Queen. She tries to comfort and reassure him about who he is now, showing his life thread and that it started when he woke up in the Frostweald. Whilst he may possess the hollow shell of Karkathmett, his life as Raphael is separate and his own.   15th Thunsheer   In the morning with a certain robust panache Zeni sends to Bilbe to meet her Tarathiel and Orlando at the pub to sell the scroll. Orlando takes the opportunity to persuade Bilbe to let them assess the shield machine, with suitable supervision and caveats, in order to allay any concerns that the device isn’t offensive or weaponised in some way. Bilbe agrees, and they asses the device working out that it is genuine in being a defensive shield generator, but do find some faults and areas of weakness needed in case they have to sabotage if things go wrong. The rest of the group make preparations to see crew and set sail next day.
